President Muhammadu Buhari Sunday in New York restated his determination
\nto fully sanitize Nigeria’s oil industry and make it totally free of
\ncorruption and shady deals.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a meeting with President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the
\n70th General Assembly of the United Nations, President Buhari said that a
\nnecessary first step in this direction had already been taken with the
\nappointment of a new management for the Nigerian National Petroleum
\nCorporation (NNPC) and its\u00a0 subsequent reorganisation .<\/p>\n
The President said that the prosecution of those who misappropriated the
\nNNPC’s revenue\u00a0 under past administrations will soon commence.<\/p>\n
President Buhari thanked President Xi Jinping for China’s ongoing help in
\ncurbing crude oil theft from Nigeria.<\/p>\n
The President applauded China’s interception of shiploads of crude oil
\nstolen from Nigeria, and which were to be sold and proceeds paid into
\nprivate accounts.<\/p>\n
“We know your stand on corruption, and we are grateful. Your continued
\ncooperation in curbing oil theft from Nigeria will be appreciated,”
\nPresident Buhari told the Chinese leader.<\/p>\n
He also assured President Xi Jinping that under its new leadership, the
\nNigerian\u00a0 military had been re-trained and re-equipped, and was now making
\nsteady gains against Boko Haram.<\/p>\n
President Jinping\u00a0 told President Buhari that\u00a0 China, which is\u00a0 already
\ninvolved in Nigeria in diverse areas like railway, airports, agriculture,
\nand in the Mambilla Hydro-power project, among others, will increase its
\ninvestment in the country’s agricultural sector to support the achievement
\nof domestic food security.<\/p>\n
He also promise further Chinese investment in Nigeria’s oil and gas
