Former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission NDCC, Timi
\nAlaibe has withdrawn from the primary of the All Progressives Congress,
\nAPC in Bayelsa State.<\/p>\n
The withdrawal of Alaibe from the Governorship race elicited jubilation
\nwithin the camp of former Governor Timipre Sylva who insisted that he won
\nthe last controversial primary which was canceled.<\/p>\n
Both Alaibe and Sylva have been neck deep in political squabble over who
\nshould pick the APC Governorship ticket. While Sylva argues he is the
\nleader and major financier of the party in the State, Alaibe claims he is
\nthe preferred candidate.<\/p>\n
Sylva and Governor Adams Oshiomhole who supervised the controversial APC
\nprimary were engaged in verbal attacks over the circumstances surrounding
\nthe botched Governorship Primary.<\/p>\n
In his to withdrawal from the race, the former MD NDDC sited the need for
\nthe APC to form a strong coalition to dislodge the ruling PDP.<\/p>\n
Alaibe said He \u201cIt is with all nostalgia that I recall the zeal,
\nenthusiasm and hope with which thousands of Bayelsans made a statement in
\nthe direction of change in August, 2015. I can also vividly recall a
\nmental replay of the occasion wherein a qualitative representation of the
\nleadership of our great party, the All Progressives Congress ( APC)
\nushered in respected leaders and members from their then party, Peoples
\nDemocratic Party ( PDP) .<\/p>\n
\u201cThat singular event has been phenomenal just as its true meaning and
\ndirection have all exuded confidence, unity of purpose, cohesion,
\ncollectivism and courage. That day undoubtedly marked the beginning of a
\npeople\u2019s journey from hopelessness and squandry as enunciated by the
\naccidental PDP-led \u00fdgovernment in Bayelsa state to that of quality
\nleadership that an APC government will represent.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs one of such leaders who took that historic decision, I thought of
\ngiving a further bite to my burning desire to extricate the state from\u00fd
\nabysmal leadership failure. Therefore, my aspiration to be governor after
\nseries of consultations was to rekindle our collective hope and lift the
\nstate beyond its current state of decay under the PDP.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegardless, I am not oblivious of the fundamental fact that we all need a
\nvirile, united, cohesive and collaborative APC to bring about our desires
\nto fruition. Not only do we need this, APC deserves every sacrifice,
\nincluding personal interests, to arrive at the envisaged destination come
\nFebruary, 2016.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is more so that both as individual leaders and as a party, the need
\nto avoid the a situation of crisis that the PDP might inadvertently reap
\nfrom cannot be over emphasised.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a result, having carefully examined the circumstances that have
\ntrailed the Governorship primaries of our great party in Bayelsa state, I
\nhave come to the conclusion that pushing my governorship ambition beyond
\nthis point carries alongside it some collateral consequences.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuccinctly, two options are available to me. Whereas I am confident that
\nI have the required support of my admirers and supporters\u00fd as well as the
\nneeded backing of Bayelsans to govern them, the hurdles set on the way of
\nthis noble project are seemingly temptous and capable of overheating the
\nAPC in Bayelsa.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn another vein, the virtuous path to take is that virtuous one in which
\npersonal interest are sacrificed for the common good,whether for the APC
\nor the state in general. This is the path I chose in the light of the
\nprevailing circumstances. I therefore withdraw from the governorship
\nprimary contest.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis decision is taken in the interest of our party especially as we face
\nthe task of the common challenge\u00fd of unseating the PDP in the state come
