President Muhammadu Buhari disclosed Monday in Abuja that the 2016
\nNational Budget being prepared by his administration will include fresh
\npolicies and measures to encourage the rapid diversification of the
\nNigerian economy away from its current over-dependence on the oil and gas
\nsector.<\/p>\n

Speaking at an audience with the President of the Movement of the
\nEnterprises of France (MEDEF), Mr. Pierre Gattaz and a delegation of
\nFrench investors, President Buhari said that policies being evolved by his
\nadministration to boost domestic manufacturing and attract greater
\ninvestment to Nigeria’s agricultural and mining sectors will be given full
\neffect under the 2016 budget.<\/p>\n

The President, therefore, urged Mr. Gattaz and the French trade mission,
\nwhich includes over 50 companies with interest in manufacturing,
\nagriculture, infrastructure development and other areas, to return to
\nNigeria again next year in order to take full advantage of the new
\npolicies.<\/p>\n

President Buhari also assured the French investors\u00a0 that under his
\nleadership, Nigeria will not fall short of international standards in the
\nprotection of foreign investments and the repatriation of returns on such
\ninvestments.<\/p>\n

Agreeing that domestic security and the inflow of foreign investment were
\nintrinsically linked, the President told the French investors, whose visit
\nto Nigeria\u00a0 is a follow-up to his recent trip to Paris, that the Federal
\nGovernment was taking all necessary measures to overcome Nigeria’s
\nsecurity challenges.<\/p>\n

“Our government came into office at a time when many people had abandoned
\nthe country’s manufacturing, agricultural and mining sectors.<\/p>\n

“We are doing\u00a0 our utmost best to encourage diversification into these
\nsectors which can employ a lot of people and we will welcome your support
\nin this regard.<\/p>\n

“Ultimately, reducing unemployment will also help to improve security
\nbecause unemployment and insecurity are inseparable,” President Buhari
\ntold the French investors.<\/p>\n

The President said that Nigeria will also welcome more French investment
\nin its power sector because\u00a0 availability of steady power supply will lead
\nto the reopening of closed factories and the creation of more jobs.<\/p>\n

He also assured the delegation that his administration was tackling
\ncorruption with vigour to ensure greater probity in the management of
\nnational resources.<\/p>\n

The MEDEF President, who spoke on behalf of the French investors, sought
\nassurances from President Buhari\u00a0 on the safety of their planned
