The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, berated the ruling All
\nProgressives Congress (APC), saying the credentials of its candidates in
\nthe Kogi and Bayelsa States forthcoming governorship election, makes a
\nmockery of the party\u2019s anti-corruption stance.<\/p>\n

The PDP in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief
\nOlisa Metuh, described as a shameful irony and display of crass hypocrisy,
\nthe fact that a ruling party that prides itself as an anti-corruption
\ncrusader, will field candidates being held on corruption charges, saying
\nsuch has further exposed the insincerity of the APC.<\/p>\n

The party said \u201cit is a mockery of strategy that the APC which has been
\ntouting the fight against corruption as its major policy, would present to
\nthe people of the two states, candidates whose public questionable
\ncredentials are further evidenced in the charges brought against them by
\nanti-graft agencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Kogi, we have the APC brazenly fielding, for the November 21
\ngovernorship election, Prince Abubakar Audu, a former governor of the
\nstate that was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes
\nCommission (EFCC) for corruption, and who is now facing charges before the
\ncourt, of breach of trust, embezzling and misappropriating the sum of
\nN10.9 billion meant for the development of his state.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the same vein, in Bayelsa state, the APC is fielding, for the December
\n5 election, Chief Timipre Sylva, also a former governor of the state, who
\nis similarly before the court on charges of embezzlement of a staggering
\nsum of N19.2 billion belonging to Bayelsa State.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis APC candidate in Bayelsa is being charged by the EFCC for embezzling
\nfunds meant for state workers for a period four years, \u2018under false
\npretence\u2019 of using the funds to augment their salaries.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow that the APC is brazenly fielding candidates with questions of
\ncorruption, we ask, do they in all honesty expect Nigerians to take them
\nseriously on their much-hyped anti-corruption crusade?<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes the APC expect the people of Kogi and Bayelsa states to be fooled
\ninto voting for the same individuals who are facing charges of looting
\nfunds meant for the development of their respective states?<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, the controversies trailing the primaries conducted by the so-called
\nAPC\u2019s best hands, to produce these candidates with questionable
\ncredentials, further foreground the corruption prevalent in the party,
\nwhich has also manifested in the presence of some persons with debatable
\nreputations in the 21-man list of ministerial nominees forwarded to the
\nSenate for clearance.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvidently, the APC has clearly established itself as a party enmeshed and
\nthriving in corruption, even as it tries to hoodwink the public into
\nbelieving that it is on a mission to fight graft in the country, a
\ncontradiction we urge all Nigerians to take copious note of.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has therefore become manifest that this administration\u2019s
\nanti-corruption agenda is dead on arrival and only applicable as a tool
\nfor witch hunt against the PDP and those holding views divergent to those
\nof the government. Consequently, this is an open invitation by the APC to
\ncorrupt persons to join them as a party that accommodates, protects and
\npromotes corruption in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur joy remains that the people of Kogi and Bayelsa will definitely
\nreject this attempt to use immunity to cloak and protect friends and
\nassociates of the ruling party and government from further prosecution.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is on this note that we urge the people of the two PDP states to
\nremain unrelenting in their support for our great party and its
\ncandidates; Governors Idris Wada and Seriake Dickson respectively, to
\nensure their deserving overwhelming victory at the polls,\u201d the PDP said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
