Ekiti State Governor,\u00a0 Ayo Fayose has told President Muhammadu Buhari that his attempt to return Nigeria to era of dictatorship will be resisted.<\/p>\n
Fayose spoke against the backdrop of a statement credited to spokesman,\u00a0 Garba Shehu,\u00a0\u00a0 which asked him to\u00a0 stop speaking on the running of
\nthe economy by the federal government .<\/p>\n
Fayose who\u00a0 described remark as a\u00a0demonstration of military dictatorship mentality, said it was sad that the presidency could be warning a Nigerian, who\u00a0is heading one of the country\u2019s federating units on what to say and\u00a0what not to say.<\/p>\n
Fayose who said he was sure that Garba Shehu must have spoken for\u00a0himself, and not Buhari, added that “we\u00a0 will continue to say the truth in the interest Nigeria and its\u00a0people because the Governor is not one of those that will go\u00a0underground because of political persecution.”<\/p>\n
He maintained that the country\u2019s economy was in serious recession,\u00a0adding that; \u201cthe president himself attested to this when he said that\u00a0the country was broke and this has also been corroborated by the
\nNigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Group financial report,\u00a0indicating that the corporation incurred a total loss of N120.07bn in\u00a0the months of August and September.<\/p>\n
“JP Morgan is also removing Nigeria from its Emerging Market Bond\u00a0Index, a move analysts say would have far reaching implications for\u00a0the country\u2019s dwindling economy as investors could move their funds to\u00a0competing countries, resulting in higher lending rates.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is therefore a sad reminder of the military era that in a\u00a0democracy, under a federation in which all federating units enjoy some\u00a0degree of autonomy, the Presidency is warning a State Governor on what
\nto say and what not to say.<\/p>\n
\u201cTop functionaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including\u00a0State Governors criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)\u00a0government of Dr Goodluck Jonathan, the Presidency did not go about
\nwarning them.<\/p>\n
\u201cCertainly, these people working with the President need to be purged\u00a0of Acquired Immune Military Dictatorship Syndrome (AIMDS), even as\u00a0they must be told that Governor Fayose won\u2019t stop speaking his mind\u00a0and exposing their hypocrisy in the overall interest of Nigeria and\u00a0its people.”<\/p>\n
Speaking further, the governor’s aide said “Nigerians are desirous of\u00a0the change promised by the APC led federal government, but as it\u00a0stands, no clear direction yet.<\/p>\n
“Rather than engage credible Nigerians to help in the revive of the\u00a0ailing economy, what we have seen from the APC Presidency is\u00a0appointment of their cronies and political robbers as well as\u00a0harassment of perceived political opponents with anti corruption\u00a0agencies and men of the Department of State Security.”<\/p>\n
He said it was not in the interest of the President for his aides to\u00a0take on Governor Fayose, adding that; “leaving issues and attacking\u00a0Fayose is like hitting ones head on the rock<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
