The Head of Public Relations of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and<\/p>\n
Safety Agency (NIMASA), Hajia Lami Tumaka has emerged the winner of the
\nMost Outstanding Maritime Industry Image Maker in the 6th National
\nEvergreen Maritime Merit Award.<\/p>\n
Hajia Tumaka emerged winner through a rigorous process of survey carried
\nout by a team of maritime journalists with over 10 maritime industry image
\nmakers in the contest.<\/p>\n
Presenting the award at a colourful ceremony at the Mobil Pegasus Club in
\nApapa, the organizers of the Awards led by Mr. Tunde Ojodu noted that
\nHajia Tumaka was selected in recognition of her excellent relationship
\nwith the maritime media, industry stakeholders and members of the public.<\/p>\n
According to him, this explains why the management of NIMASA called on her
\nto once again reposition the image of the regulatory agency which was at
\nan all-time low before the removal of the former Director General in July
\nthis year.<\/p>\n
A Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (FNIPR), Hajia
\nTumaka has close to three decades cognate experience in Journalism and
\nPublic Relations in both the private and public sectors of Nigeria\u2019s
\neconomy at the highest level having served as Manager News with the
\nNigerian Television Authority (NTA), Public Relations Manager of Peugeot
\nAutomobile Nigeria (PAN) Limited before joining the services of the then
\nNational Maritime Authority (NMA).<\/p>\n
Hajia Tumaka, a quintessential Public Relation and Strategic Media expert
\nis a Deputy Director with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety
\nAgency, NIMASA and the Head of the Public Relations Unit of the Agency.<\/p>\n
She is highly Resourceful, Analytical and posseses Good Communication and
\nPresentation skills.<\/p>\n
Often referred to as the \u201cNorthern Belle,\u201d Tumaka Born in the sixties in
\nKaduna state, hails from Niger State and renowned for her unique prowess
\nin Managing Human Resources .<\/p>\n
She Holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello
\nUniversity, Zaria.<\/p>\n
A one-time Manager News with the NTA in Minna, Niger state, Hajia Tumaka
\ngraduated with a distinction in Certificate in Basic Film Production from
\nthe TV College, Jos, Plateau State.<\/p>\n
Her quest to enhance her competence in the art of Public Relations saw her
\nsojourn to Holborn College in London England, where she earned a Diploma
\nin Public Relations in the year 1993.<\/p>\n
Hajia Tumaka graduated from the Prestigious Ahmadu Bello University Zaria
\nin 1979 with a Bachelors Degree in English Literature. She had her Primary
\nand Secondary Education in Minna, the capital city of Niger State.<\/p>\n
Tumaka was a classroom teacher for five years before she joined public
\nservice as a staff of the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA. Where she
\ndistinguished herself and rose to the position of News Editor within four
\nyears in service<\/p>\n
Hajia Tumaka made the switch from the practice of pure Journalism to that
\nof Public Relations and within five years rose to become the Public
\nRelations Manager of the Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited, in Kaduna in
\n1995.<\/p>\n
After a distinguished career in the private sector, Hajia Tumaka returned
\nto serve Nigeria in the Public Sector when she joined the employment of
\nthe then National Maritime Authority in 1998 as a Chief Research Officer,
\nand later transferred to the Public Relations Unit as an Assistant
\nDirector.<\/p>\n
Hajia Tumaka, the pioneer Chairperson of Niger State Women in Media, is a
\nFellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, (NIPR) and Member
\nSoroptomist International.<\/p>\n
Her hobbies are Reading, Travelling and meeting people.<\/p>\n
