Newly appointed Minister for Niger Delta, Pastor Uguru Usani Uguru,
\nallegedly murdered one Mr. Iwara Osuaya, a Chairmanship contestant in May
\n1996, in Cross River State, according to a petition to the Oputa Panel in
\n2001.<\/p>\n
The petition signed by Jenny Iwara Osuaya, wife of the deceased, alleged
\nthat Usani and others murdered her husband in 1996.<\/p>\n
Usani, who allegedly supported another candidate in the election, was said
\nto have promised offsetting Osuaya’s election expenses. But when Osuaya
\nwent to collect the promised compensation, a fracas ensued which resulted
\nin his death.<\/p>\n
The now Minister for Niger Delta appointed by President Mohammadu Buhari
\nand screened by the Senate, with few unnamed persons allegedly killed
\nOsuaya, rolled him up in the blood stained rug carpet in his sitting room,
\ncarried the body into his car, drove into the bush, poured acid on the
\nbody to conceal evidence.<\/p>\n
At the Justice Chukwudifu Oputa Commission in Port Harcourt, former Chief
\nof General Staff, Lt-General Oladipo Diya and former Military
\nAdministrator of Cross River State, Group Captain Gregory Agboneni were
\nlinked with helping Usani to cover up the alleged crime and forestall the
\nprosecution of the former Information Commissioner.<\/p>\n
Usani served as Commissioner for Information under Agboneni.<\/p>\n
PETITION NO 673 to the Oputa Panel reads:<\/p>\n
PETITIONER: MRS. JENNY IWARA OSUAYA
\nThe petitioner was the wife of one Mr. Iwara Osuaya [deceased). The
\npetitioner alleged that her late husband was murdered by Mr. Usani Uguru
\nUsani & Others. The assailants were arrested by the police Mr. Usani who
\nwas a member of the Cross Rivers State Executive Council used his
\ninfluence to suppress investigation into the matter The preliminary
\ninvestigation report of the matter indicted Mr. Usani and others but the
\npolice did not prosecute them. The preliminary report was admitted in
\nevidence as Exhibit 2.<\/p>\n
The Commission ordered the Inspector-General of Police to constitute
\nanother panel to conduct fresh investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n
Sources close in the Force Headquarters told Pointblanknews.com that the
\ncase had remained a “cold case” after the Oputa Panel.<\/p>\n
Pastor Usani, Usani Uguru was born in 1961 In Nko, Yakurr Local Government
\nA\u00fdrea of Cross River State.<\/p>\n
Married with children, Usani is currently a PHD student with the Nigerian
\nDefence Academy, NDA Kaduna State with a thesis topic on Economic Growth
\nand Human Development in Rural Communities of Karu Local Government Area
\nof Nasarawa State.<\/p>\n
He attended Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London between
\n2004 \u2013 2005 were he obtained an M.Sc degree in Globalization and
\nDevelopment. He was a student of Rivers State University of Science and
\nTechnology, Port Harcourt between 1998 \u2013 2003 were he also obtained \u00fda
\nMasters degree in Environmental Management.<\/p>\n
An Alumni of University of Calabar, Usani also obtained a Master of
\nBusiness Administration (MBA) from the school between 1995-1997\u00fd.<\/p>\n
The minister is a graduate of the University of Jos with a Bachelor of
\nScience, B.Sc in Geography and postgraduate Diploma PGD in Management
\nbetween 1982 and 1986 and 1990-1991 respectively.<\/p>\n
Usani Uguru Usani until his new appointment was the Chairman of APC in
\nCross River State. He was also the state coordinator of National Unity
\nClub (one of the associations that formed the Grassroot Democratic
\nMovement (1994).<\/p>\n
In 1998 and 1999 when the current political dispensation came into being,
\nUsani was one of the pioneer members who formed the Peoples Democratic
\nParty, PDP in Cross River State, he however left the party in 2001 due to
\nirreconcilable differences within the party, based on principle.<\/p>\n
He contested the seat of Governorship of Cross River state in 2003 and
\n2012 under the opposition political platform of National Democrats ND and
\nAction Congress of Nigeria, ACN.<\/p>\n
