The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has warned
\nthe All Progressive Congress (APC) led-government warned to stay clear
\nof the forthcoming governorship elections in Bayelsa State.<\/p>\n
The group said any attempt to rig the election would re-awake \u201ca sleeping
\ndog.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a statement issued by Mend\u2019s acting chairman, Prince Amaibi Horby
\nyesterday, in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, the group declared its
\nsupport for candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and
\nincumbent governor, Seriake Dickson<\/p>\n
the group assured him the support and backing of Ijaw people because
\nof his performance. It said it would dispatch 500 members to monitor
\nthe exercise, particularly in the creeks.<\/p>\n
The group noted that the governor is a product of the Ijaw struggle
\nfor resource control and self-determination in the Niger Delta, before
\nventuring into active politics.<\/p>\n
They stressed that he had contributed immensely to the socio-political
\nand economic development of the Ijaw nation.<\/p>\n
