President Muhammadu Buhari some treasury looters have commenced<\/p>\n
returning stolen money voluntarily.<\/p>\n
Speaking during a communication session with the Nigerian Community in
\nIran, Buhari said that he was not pleased yet as his administration
\nwould stop at nothing to confirm all stolen funds and not a fraction
\nwas returned.<\/p>\n
President Buhari didn\u2019t list the names of the former government
\nofficials who have so far returned parts of stolen assets; neither did
\nhe reveal how much had so far been returned to Nigeria\u2019s treasury.<\/p>\n
He said that unlike what was appropriate in 1985 when he was a
\nmilitary head of state that suspects could be imprisoned while being
\nprobed, democracy and rule of law do not encourage that.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn corruption; yes, they (the past government officials) are still
\ninnocent,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cBut, we are collecting documents and some of them have started
\nvoluntarily returning something. But we want all.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we get those documents, we will formally charge them to court
\nand then we will tell Nigerians to know those who abused trust when
\nthey are entrusted with public funds. So, the day of reckoning is
\ngradually approaching.\u201d<\/p>\n
President Buhari pledged to deal conclusively with saboteurs who are
\ndestroying pipelines and stealing crude oil.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe if you are in touch back at home, you would have been told
\nthat already there is some improvement in power,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe haven\u2019t said anything to them yet. I think they only find it
\nsensible or appropriate for them to try and improve the power.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m sure you know about the privatisation of the power sector; your
\nold friends NEPA or Power Holding Company of Nigeria have been sold to
\na number of interest groups.
\n\u201cThose who normally steal Nigerian crude and those who blow up
\ninstallations, whether they call themselves militants or whatever,
