Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said the newly commissioned<\/p>\n
Toru-Ebeni bridge will help in opening up the hinterland in Bayelsa State
\nas well as boost commercial activity in the area.<\/p>\n
Jonathan, who made this remark during the commissioning of the bridge
\nyesterday, recalled that the late Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, a former
\ngovernor of the state, conceived the idea of the project but he started
\nthe construction which the present administration completed.
\nHe said his administration saw the project as a priority which would
\nalleviate the sufferings of the people living in the riverine communities
\nof Bayelsa Central and West as well as helping people of Ekeremor who will
\nno longer travel through Bomadi to their communities.
\nActing National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Uche
\nSecondus,described the quality of the bridge as comparable to the best
\nanywhere in the world.
\nSecondus noted that the state governor, Seriake Dickson, has achieved a
\nlot for the state interms of high quality projects which, he said, would
\nattract massive votes for his re-election.
\nOn his part, Dickson pointed out that due to the former president\u2019s
\ncommitment to infrastructural development of the state, he decided to
\ncomplete the bridge projects for him to commission.
\nHe expressed delight that the contractors, Setraco and CCECC, were able to
\ncomplete both projects in record time, stressing that he is committed to
\nbuilding more of such bridges and other infrastructural facilities in the
\nstate id re-elected.
\nHis words:\u201dI am fulfilled for the completion and commissioning of the two
\nbridges. The former president was committed to the development of
\ninfrastructure in the state. I want to remind you that the Ekoli and
\nToru-Ebeni bridges were initiated by him.<\/p>\n
That is why the commissioning of the Toru-Ebeni bridge project was
\nreserved for Dr. Jonathan as a mark of honour for him\u201d.<\/p>\n
