Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described the Kogi State<\/p>\n

election debacle as a show of shame by the Independent National
\nElectoral Commission (INEC) and the President Mohammadu Buhari-led
\nadministration, warning that \u201cINEC must be mindful of the consequences
\nof perpetrating the same electoral abracabra in Bayelsa State.\u201d<\/p>\n

The governor said; \u201cIf INEC could mess up its first assignment under
\nPresident Buhari\u2019s kinsman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, Nigerians should get
\nprepared for manipulated electoral processes.\u201d<\/p>\n

He called on the judiciary to be bold enough to provide the necessary
\nintervention on the Kogi stalemated election, saying instead of
\nturning itself into the court, INEC ought to have approached the
\nSupreme Court for proper interpretation on the relevant laws since the
\nKogi scenario was not captured in the 1999 Constitution (as amended)
\nand the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).<\/p>\n

\u201cINEC has created total confusion in
\nKogi State with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy
\nGovernorship candidate, Hon James Faleke, Peoples Democratic Party
\n(PDP), Governor Idris Wada, governorship candidate of the People for
\nDemocratic Change (PDC), Hon. Emmanuel Daikwo and two others now in
\ncourt, challenging the supplementary election scheduled for Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cAPC on its part has presented Yahaya Bello as late Abubakar Audu\u2019s
\nreplacement. But Faleke, who should be his running mate, has written
\nto INEC to withdraw his name as Deputy Governorship candidate, and
\nINEC has not told Nigerians how APC will field governorship candidate
\nwithout a running mate.<\/p>\n

\u201cOr has INEC also waved the Electoral Act requirement for a
\ngovernorship candidate to be nominated with a deputy just because it
\nis the APC that is involved?\u201d<\/p>\n

The governor said President Buhari was setting Nigeria on the path of
\nanarchy by using the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and
\nMinister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, who is a member of APC to
\nperpetrate constitutional fraud by imposing an illegal decision on
\nINEC.<\/p>\n

He said; \u201cINEC must tell Nigerians what it would have done if it was
\nthe candidate of any of the 41 political parties (apart from APC) that
\nparticipated in the election that died while the election was ongoing.
\nWould INEC have resorted to the illegal amendment of the Constitution
\nas it did to protect the interest of the APC or simply go ahead and
\ndelete the dead candidate and announce the winner based on votes
\nscored by the remaining candidates?\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking further, Governor Fayose noted that \u201cPDP ruled for 16 years,
\nNigeria was not thrown into this kind of electoral mess\u200e and
\nconfusion. This to me is a real fraud and a clear indication that
\nPresident Buhari will not lead this country to anywhere but confusion.<\/p>\n

\u201cI imagine if Dr Goodluck Jonathan had acted this way, will Nigeria be
\nwhere it is now? Wouldn\u2019t democracy have been scuttled?<\/p>\n

\u201cPainfully, many honourable people that supposed to talk have kept
\nquiet, seeming to be enjoying the macabre dance of INEC and President
\nBuhari.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
