The Governor of Byelsa State, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson has commended the
\ngood people of Bayelsa State for standing up to be counted by protecting
\ntheir votes so far in the December 5th governorship election in the face
\nof intimidation, harassment, killings of innocent voters and ballot
\nsnatching by the Nigeria military and APC thugs in Brass and Southern Ijaw
\nlocal governments.<\/p>\n
Governor Dickson was full of praise for the people for their courage,
\nstressing that, the cancellation of the elections in Southern Ijaw could
\nnot have happened without the resilience and courage of Bayelsans in
\ndefending democracy and the Ijaw nation.<\/p>\n
A Government House statement signed by Daniel Iworiso-Markson, Spokesman
\nto the Governor noted that, the cancellation has further vindicated
\nGovernor Seriake Dickson, who had earlier urged the commission and the
\nsecurity agencies not to go ahead with the election in Southern Ijaw in
\nthe light of clear cases of insecurity created by the APC, who were
\njittery and were losing in the results collated from seven out of eight
\nlocal government areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the commission and the security agencies had heeded the governor\u2019s
\ncounsel, they wouldn\u2019t have wasted tax payers money conducting the
\nill-fated elections in some wards in Southern Ijaw\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement also commended INEC for cancelling the election and called
\non the federal security not to put the state under siege again in the
\nrescheduled date, because Bayelsans will always resist any attempt to
\nsubvert the will of the people.<\/p>\n
The statement enjoins Bayelsans to remain law abiding and go about their
\nbussinesses, assuring them of the government\u2019s readiness to always protect
\ntheir interest and also deliver democracy dividends to all Bayelsans and
