Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has said foreign trips<\/p>\n
embarked upon by President Muhammadu Buhari since he assumed office is
\nnot as frivolous as those of former President Goodluck Jonathan.<\/p>\n
Sani was reacting to criticism from different quarters, especially the
\nopposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that President Buhari was
\nbusy traveling all over the world in the face of persistent fuel
\nscarcity in the country.<\/p>\n
But Sani, who is deputy Chairman of the Senate committee on Foreign
\nAffairs, said \u201cPresident Buhari is the most prudent President in terms
\nof travels. His travels have not gulped the kind of resources, his
\npredecessors\u2019 travels gulped.\u201d<\/p>\n
He described the various foreign trips by the President as necessary
\nand made \u201cto secure a deal for Nigeria\u201d.<\/p>\n
Sani said: \u201cThese travels are very necessary for him to work out a
\nprogramme for the economy. All the countries that he has been to, he
\nhas secured a good deal for Nigeria. He was in Iran for the 3rd Gas
\nExporting Countries Forum (GEFC), because as you already know, Nigeria
\nis a major gas exporter. He travelled to Malta for security and
\nAgricultural development, and as you also know, Nigeria is a major
\nagricultural country. He also travelled to France on the issue of
\nenvironment and climate change.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo you cannot have a President that would simply sit at home and not
\ntravel. It doesn\u2019t work that way. The travels are an opportunity for
\nthe President to project Nigeria and also bring the attention of the
\nworld to Nigeria. So his journeys are not as frivolous as those of
\nPresident Jonathan. We are living in an inter-dependent world, so it\u2019s
\nnot possible for a president not to travel, so those who are
\ncomplaining that he is travelling are ignorant\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
