{"id":44721,"date":"2015-12-08T20:32:13","date_gmt":"2015-12-08T19:32:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=44721"},"modified":"2015-12-08T20:32:13","modified_gmt":"2015-12-08T19:32:13","slug":"fashola-announces-40-blocks-of-buhari-housing-estate-in-each-state-of-the-federation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/fashola-announces-40-blocks-of-buhari-housing-estate-in-each-state-of-the-federation\/","title":{"rendered":"Fashola Announces 40 Blocks of Buhari Housing Estate In Each State of The Federation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_803911222\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Tuesday<\/span><\/span>,<br \/>\nrevealed that there would be change in the policy direction of the<br \/>\nBuhari\u2019s administration in the settlement sector.<\/p>\n<p>This, he said, would commence in the 2016 budget implementation, as the<br \/>\nFederal Government would spend N10b to build low income housing estate in<br \/>\neach of the state of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory<br \/>\n(FCT).<\/p>\n<p>It will be recalled that the Obasanjo\u2019s administration upturned the policy<br \/>\nof Shagari\u2019s administration by declaring that government would no longer<br \/>\nbuild houses for people to occupy, subsequently, he sold off all<br \/>\ngovernment houses built during Shagari era.<\/p>\n<p>During Obasanjo government, the government through the Ministry of Land,<br \/>\nHousing and Urban Development was collaborating with the developers by<br \/>\nproviding lands for them to build \u2018affordable\u2019 housing estates. The policy<br \/>\ndirection that was replicated by both Ya\u2019Adua and Jonathan governments.<\/p>\n<p>However, Fashola unveiling Buhari\u2019s administration agenda in the housing<br \/>\nsector in Abuja, said there is need for the government to review the<br \/>\nexisting policy in the housing sector to address housing deficit in the<br \/>\ncountry.<\/p>\n<p>He said; \u201cThe Housing sector presents an enormous opportunity for<br \/>\npositively impacting the economy to promote not only growth but inclusion.<br \/>\n\u201cThere have been a couple of National Housing policies and we intend to<br \/>\nappraise the most current one to make changes only if necessary.<br \/>\n\u201cGovernment will lead the aggressive intervention to increase supply, by<br \/>\nundertaking construction of public housing and formulate policies that<br \/>\nwill invariably lead to private sector participation and ownership to<br \/>\nreduce our housing deficit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fashola maintained that the government would understudy \u2018Jakande and<br \/>\nShagari\u2019s housing estates model to develop an affordable housing unit for<br \/>\nthe masses, by building 40 blocks in each state.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the immediate past administration budgeted less in housing<br \/>\nsector of the economy, the trends that would be reversed.<br \/>\n\u201cSo for us, consistency is key, annual spending is an imperative. We must<br \/>\nchange the budget for national housing from N1.8 Billion in 2015 to<br \/>\nsomething in the hundreds of billions of Naira that matches our ambition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we can spend N10 billion in each state and the FCT on housing alone<br \/>\nevery year subject to (a) the capacity to raise the money and (b) the<br \/>\ncapacity to utilize the funds having regards to our current construction<br \/>\nmethods and the time it takes to complete construction, which our ministry<br \/>\nintends to change by research and industrialization of housing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The minister explained that the government would embark on seminars and<br \/>\nconferences to ensure proper capacity building for stakeholders in the<br \/>\nsector to drive the new agenda.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, \u201cIf we achieve this, we will move from where we are now,<br \/>\nstart construction in all 36 States and the FCT and sustain this as we go<br \/>\nalong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the housing sector, if we complete our on-going projects, and we get<br \/>\nland from the Governors in all states and the FCT to start what we know,<br \/>\nusing the Lagos Home model, we should start 40 Blocks of Housing in each<br \/>\nstate and FCT.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, Tuesday, revealed that there would be change in the policy direction of the Buhari\u2019s administration in the settlement sector.
