The Acting Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and<\/p>\n
Safety Agency (NIMASA),Mr. Haruna Baba Jauro has reiterated the commitment
\nof the Agency towards stamping out the activities of unscrupulous elements
\nwho are bent on disrupting the peace in its areas of operation.<\/p>\n
Speaking as a special guest of honour at the opening ceremony of the
\nNigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI) media
\nworkshop in Lagos on Monday, the DG said that NIMASA had committed itself
\nto ensuring the success of the working agreements with the Nigerian
\nmilitary in order to keep the Nigerian maritime environment safe from
\ncriminal activities.<\/p>\n
He commended the Nigerian military for its dogged war against insurgency,
\nexplaining that he had a first-hand experience of the security challenges
\nof the northeast region being an indigene of Yobe State who had lived in
\nthe Maiduguri\/Damaturu axis since 1985 until 2012 when he took up the
\nNIMASA assignment.<\/p>\n
The DG said: \u201cWe, the civilian populace, our hearts are now better at
\npeace when we noticed the renewed commitment and motivation demonstrated
\nby our armed forces. Peace is needed for every activity to progress. We
\nraise our thumps up for our military seeing what is happening. And we want
\nto say \u2018kudos\u2019 to you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Jauro urged the media to always ensure that they balance their business
\ngoals with national interest. He charged participants, who are made up of
\nmilitary officers and defence correspondents, to use the workshop to add
\nto the gamut of knowledge in the Armed Forces.<\/p>\n
He praised the media for downplaying the issue of insurgency, which has
\nfurther frustrated the murderous activities of the terror group. \u201cThe
\nmedia is an important stakeholder in all phases of military operations,
\nparticularly in the ongoing fight against insurgency,\u201d he further said.<\/p>\n
The Commandant of NASPRI, Colonel John Agim commended the NIMASA helmsman
\nfor his passion, dedication to duty and love for the military and the
\ncountry.<\/p>\n
He revealed that his communication with the NIMASA DG was purely official
\nhaving not met him before the event, \u201cyet he accepted to grace the
\noccasion despite his tight schedules.\u201d<\/p>\n
