Dr. Dakuku Peterside, governorship candidate of the All Progressives
\nCongress, APC in Rivers State has hailed today\u2019s verdict of the Appeal
\nCourt endorsing the earlier judgement of the Rivers Elections Petitions
\nTribunal on the nullification of April Rivers State governorship election.<\/p>\n
Reacting to the judgement, Peterside praised the Nigerian judiciary for
\nits courage and efforts towards deepening the nation\u2019s democracy and
\npolitical process.<\/p>\n
According to him, the judiciary will be remembered for standing tall even
\nin the face of unwarranted provocation and vilification by those who
\nbrazenly stole the peoples\u2019 mandate during the March and April elections
\nin Rivers State.<\/p>\n
He also congratulated the people of Rivers State for their patience and
\nunderstanding especially in view of the painful process of reclaiming
\ntheir mandate.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am happy that the Nigerian judiciary is rekindling hope in our
\nelectoral process and in our country generally. This is so because the
\njudiciary is sending the right signal, particularly to those who
\nperpetrate violence and fraud during elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cNever again will a peoples\u2019 mandate be subverted so viciously by a
\nviolent and self-seeking few, all in the name of political contest.
\nMembers of our party and supporters were murdered in cold blood in their
\nhomes and campaign grounds for their political beliefs. We are happy that
\nthis injustice is currently being addressed by a credible institution like
\nthe judiciary.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe pray never to experience the level of persecution, violence and deaths
\nthat characterised both the March and April elections in our state.
\nDemocracy is about freedom, equality and justice; so everybody must join
\nhands to defend it at all times.<\/p>\n
\u201cI therefore wish to dedicate our victories in the legislative and
\nexecutive arms to our fallen brothers and sisters, our supporters and the
\nentire Rivers people for believing in us and for keeping faith.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur state will be great again if and only when we vote into public
\noffice, our sons and daughters who will not bring shame to us by their
\nwords and actions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe, members of the APC know the needs of our people as we fully
\nappreciate the leadership crisis rocking our state today. You have
\nsacrificed and waited all these agonizing months for justice. Now, justice
\nhas come. I commend you and urge you to hold on a little more as we all
\nmarch collectively towards entrenching the kind of leadership that would
