The National Convener of the United Action for Democracy (UAD), Mr.
\nBaba Aye, has called on the All Progressive Congress (APC) led
\ngovernment to stop its mass repression, murder, and unlawful detention
\nof citizens across the country.<\/p>\n
Aye, in a statement, faulted the Federal Government on the \u201cwave of
\nmacabre repression\u201d which has included \u201chundreds of Shi\u2019ite Moslems
\nkilled in Zaria\u201d and state-sanctioned murders of \u201cthe Indigenous
\nPeople of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualization of the
\nSovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB)\u201d members.<\/p>\n
He also faulted Nigerian government and military for the recent
\nmassacre of Shiite Muslims in Zaria and unlawful detention of the
\nShiite leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky.
\nHe said the Nigeria military has not learnt from recent history,
\nnoting the parallels between the massacre of Muslims in Zaria and
\nunlawful detention of Sheikh Zakzaky to the murder of Boko Haram\u2019s
\nformer sect leader Mohammed Yusuf.<\/p>\n
Aye said:\u00a0 \u201cThe continued detention of El-Zakzaky is in no way
\njustifiable. UAD thus calls for his immediate release and the
\nestablishment of a judicial commission of inquiry into the Zaria
\nkillings which should include the trade unions and civil society
\nmovement.\u201d<\/p>\n
He argued in his statement that the pro-Biafra sentiments in southern
\nNigeria are linked to the \u201cNigerian state and the class of leaders,
\nwho control it, including those from the South Eastern states, have
\nfailed the generality of common women, men and youth.\u201d He added that
\n\u201cdetaining or killing persons who stand for the secession of \u2018Biafra\u2019
\nis in no way a solution to the secessionist agitation which is now
