The Federal Government would recruit 500,000 teachers to be deployed
\nto various schools across the country\u201d as an emergency measure to
\nsolve chronic shortage\u201d of teachers in public schools.<\/p>\n
Speaking during while presenting the 2016 budget to the joint section
\nof the National Assembly in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari said the
\nfederal government would partner with State and Local Governments to
\nrecruit, train and deploy unemployed graduates and NCE holders as
\nteachers and deployed to primary schools to enhance the provision of
\nbasic education in our rural areas.<\/p>\n
President Buhari said the 2016 budget, in every aspect of its
\nexecution, would focus on meeting the challenges of current rate of
\nunemployment in the country, adding that the job creation drive would
\nbe private sector led.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will encourage this by a reduction in tax rates for smaller
\nbusinesses as well as subsidized funding for priority sectors such as
\nagriculture and solid minerals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also intend to partner with State and Local Governments to provide
\nfinancial training and loans to market women, traders and artisans,
\nthrough their cooperative societies. We believe that this segment of
\nour society is not only critical to our plan for growing small
\nbusinesses, but it is also an important platform to create jobs and
\nprovide opportunities for entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough the office of the Vice President, we are working with various
\ndevelopment partners to design an implementable and transparent
\nconditional cash transfer program for the poorest and most vulnerable.
\nThis program will be implemented in phases. Already, the compilation
\nof registers of the poorest persons is ongoing. In the coming weeks,
\nwe will present the full programme, which will include our home-grown
\npublic primary school feeding and free education for science,
\ntechnology and education students in our tertiary institutions.
