Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)\u00a0 in Yenagoa on
\nTuesday raised a fresh alarm over “the win or destroy” plans of the All
\nProgressives Congress (APC) for the rescheduled election in Southern Ijaw
\nLGA.<\/p>\n
The party\u00a0 reiterated its earlier position that the same desperation of
\nAPC\u2019s Timipre Sylva for power resulted in the compromise\u00a0 of otherwise
\nrespectable federal institutions during the aborted election.<\/p>\n
A statement issued by the Director of Publicity, Restoration Campaign
\nOrganisation, Jonathan Obuebite, said the APC have still not learnt any
\nlessons from the incident because “Sylva and others were hell-bent on
\nusing the same federal institutions like the military, police, INEC to rig
\nthe election in Southern Ijaw.”<\/p>\n
Warning of the dire consequences, Obuebite stated that the PDP had
\nuncovered fresh plans to rig at all cost even when it was glaring that
\nthere was no way the APC could possibly win going by the clear margin of
\nwin by the PDP having swept 6 out of the 7 local governments declared so
\nfar and the fact that Southern Ijaw is a noted stronghold of the PDP.<\/p>\n
He berated Sylva and the APC\u00a0 \u201cfor doing everything to compromise the
\nREC\u201d, saying he did same with the military and police during the canceled
\nelection in their desperate moves to win at all cost.<\/p>\n
He drew attention to an interview by the state\u2019s REC, Baritor Kpagih,
\nwhich though did not mention any names\u00a0 revealed that money was offered to
\nhim by \u201ccertain interests\u201d to skew the governorship election in favour of
\ntheir candidate and that his refusal to be bribed had pitted them against
\nhim leading to name calling and threats to his life.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy refusal had infuriated them and they started saying I had gone
\nunderground and all sorts of stories. People should not take election as a
\ndo-or-die affair. I told them I can\u2019t help them to rig the election and
\nthat they should use the money they wanted to bribe me with to go to the
\ngrassroots and canvass for votes\u201d, the REC told The Guardian, that noted
\nflagship of the Nigerian press.<\/p>\n
Obuebite commended the courage of the REC, noting that even though he did
\nnot mention names, it was clear who he was referring to and that such
\nrevelations had justified PDP\u2019s position that APC\u2019s desperation for power
\nhad resulted in the attempt to defenestrate\u00a0 respectable federal
\ninstitutions such as the military, police, INEC, EFCC and the Judiciary,
\nall in a bid to get power at all cost.<\/p>\n
\u201cAPC have still not learnt their lessons as they are hell-bent on using
\nthe same federal institutions to rig the rescheduled Southern Ijaw
\nelection even when it is so glaring that there is no way they or their
\ncandidate\u00a0 \u00a0could possibly win. Sylva\u2019s desperation to win at all cost
\neven when the odds are clearly against him,having been roundly rejected by
\nthe people, is rather alarming and constitutes a clear and present danger
