Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has banned use of fireworks, bangers and<\/p>\n
mini-explosives, both in the cities and the villages, throughout the festive
\nperiod.<\/p>\n
This is as the governor has directed the police and other law enforcement
\nagents to apprehend offenders.<\/p>\n
Ikpeazu,in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Godwin Adindu,said
\nthat is for the public to enjoy a peaceful and joyous Christmas and New
\nyear celebrations, devoid of any incident of violence or mishap.<\/p>\n
“This ban is for the general good as fireworks have resulted in heavy fire
\nincidents in many places in the past and have also been used as decoy by
\ncriminals to wreck havoc on innocent citizens at this period of the year.<\/p>\n
“Therefore, the general public, especially youths and teenagers, are
\nadvised to conduct themselves peaceably and not to engage in activities
\nthat will spoil the mood of the festivities,” the statement reads.<\/p>\n
The Governor also uses the opportunity to extend his good wishes and
\nprayers to all Abians as they mark this year\u2019s Christmas and new year
