In keeping with his promise to accord priority to the welfare of workers,
\nthe Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi, has assured workers that
\ntheir January salaries would be paid on the 15th.<\/p>\n
Umahi gave the assurance in his country home,\u00a0 \u00a0Uburu when the leadership
\nof the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress paid him New
\nYear homage.<\/p>\n
The governor, who noted that he had to step down every project last
\nDecember to give junior workers 100% extra salary and 50% to\u00a0 senior
\nworkers,\u00a0 said \u201cin the next 13 days\u00a0 workers will receive salary for
\nJanuary.\u201d<\/p>\n
He stated that the initial misunderstanding he had with the organized
\nlabour in the state \u201cwas brought by God himself because it made us to be
\non our toes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Umahi attributed the success so far recorded by his administration to
\nGod\u2019s instruction, and promised workers of better welfare this New Year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no how we will implement an N101bn budget without the lives of
\nworkers changing, absolutely, no how,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n
The governor maintained his commitment to implementing the 2016
\nbudget\u00a0 \u00a0100%, and assured that his fight against corruption in the state
\nwas total.<\/p>\n
Umahi told the leadership of the organized labour that after the festive
\nperiod, \u201cwe will try to organize properly and move together as a people.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cI won\u2019t forget your labour of love; I won\u2019t forget your
\ncommitment and I won\u2019t forget all the struggles. We do remember.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier, in his remark, the Chairman of the Joint Public Service
\nNegotiating Council, Comrade Ikechukwu Nwafor, said the delegation came
\nto identify with the governor in this season of the Yuletide.<\/p>\n
Nwafor said, \u201cLabour cannot afford to celebrate this Christmas and New
\nYear without coming to identify with this government and to pray that this
\nyear will be a better year for the government and workers of Ebonyi
\nState.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Umahi has appealed to the people of Ohaozara Local Government
\nArea to unite to attain greater heights this year.<\/p>\n
Speaking when the stakeholders of Okposi Okwu and Mgbom Okposi autonomous
\ncommunities visited him, the governor regretted that the seed of disunity
\ncaused\u00a0 \u00a0by some disgruntled politicians had robbed the area of meaningful
\nprogress.<\/p>\n
Umahi informed the stakeholders that the street light project of the state
\ngovernment would be extended to Okposi\u00a0 \u00a0while the Okposi-Ugwulangwu-
\nUkawu road would be constructed.<\/p>\n
He stressed the intention of his administration to develop the\u00a0 \u00a0salt
\ndeposits in the area into modern salt factories as soon as the necessary
\ntests were carried out to ascertain
\ntheir quantity and quality.<\/p>\n
The governor\u00a0 \u00a0also announced that all issues relating to \u201cEzeship\u201d of
\nOkposi Okwu has been put on hold pending the burial of a former Minister
\nof Education, the late\u00a0 Dr.Igwe Aja Nwachukwu.<\/p>\n
He warned the youth against cultism, stating that his administration would
\nnot fail to prosecute anyone found to be involved in activities that
\nnegated the peace of the area.<\/p>\n
Governor Umahi later took some time out to inspect the on-going
\nconstruction of the Amasiri- Okposi-Uburu Road.<\/p>\n
He directed the construction company (Conrock Nigeria Ltd\u2026) to stop
\nfurther work on the road, pending its deployment of four bulldozers, three
\ngraders, ten tipping trucks and four water tankers to the site.<\/p>\n
The governor warned that if after 10 days the contractor failed to meet
\nhis directive, he would terminate the contract.<\/p>\n
Governor Umahi also inspected the failed \u201cAkwa Etiti\u201d bridge which links
\nAmangwu Edda in Afikpo South Local Government Area and Amasiri in Afikpo
\nNorth LGA.<\/p>\n
He\u00a0 \u00a0said that construction of another bridge\u00a0 \u00a0would commence in the next
\nfour
\nweeks to save the people of the area from being cut off totally from the
