The Independent Electoral\u00a0 Commission (INEC) has hailed the commendable
\ngallantry exhibited by the women and youths of Oporoma, headquarters of
\nSouthern Ijaw\u00a0 LGAs, Ekowe\u00a0 and Otuan\u00a0 communities who have resolved to
\ntake their destiny in their hands by chasing away militants and forming a
\nformidable vigilante groups to guide electoral materials till the entire
\nof the rerun.<\/p>\n
The Director of Publicity, Restoration Campaign\u00a0 Organisation, Jonathan
\nObuebite, describes it as a commendable show of resistance.<\/p>\n
He said, “This development we reliably gathered was the people’s resolve
\nto ensure that nobody disenfranchise them from exercising their
\nconstitutional responsibilities.<\/p>\n
At Otuan, an APC chieftain, Rufus Abadi met\u00a0 a resilient blockade by women
\nand youth who chased away political thugs he had assembled in his compound
\nto undermine the process.<\/p>\n
“While efforts to thwart activities at Oporoma was equally resisted as
\nwomen n youths in their hundreds chased\u00a0 the militants away,\u00a0 Ekowe
\ncommunity rose to the occasion by stopping another show of shame by a
\ndreaded militant called Eris Paul, popularly\u00a0 known as General Ogunbos.”<\/p>\n
Obuebite who was full of praise for the resistance, also called on other
\ncommunities to emulate these gallantry and ensure that their vote
\ncontravenes during the rerun.<\/p>\n
