Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said his administration will carry out<\/p>\n
verification to ascertain the true number of workers on public payroll at
\nthe state and local government levels.<\/p>\n
“In order to reposition the civil service, we will carry out full
\nverification to ascertain the number of workers we have at the state and
\nlocal government levels and to end the culture of truancy especially at
\nLGAs where workers go to work late and in some instances, they don’t go at
\nall,” Tambuwal said when he hosted Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel, National
\nPresident of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) at
\nGovernment House, Sokoto.<\/p>\n
According to him, the government will aim to achieve the objectives of
\nestablishing the local government as third tier of government which was to
\nbring government closer to the people and ensure massive development at
\nthe grassroots level.<\/p>\n
He said the stated aims can only be achieved if the local governments
\nenjoy autonomy in sourcing for finances and in their expenditure.<\/p>\n
“My position on local government autonomy is well-known. I am in full
\nsupport of it. Your union should intensify lobby especially at the
\nNational Assembly to see to the realisation of the objective. As you do
\nthat, know that in Sokoto you have a friend in struggle,” the Governor
\nadded.<\/p>\n
Earlier in his remarks, the NULGE President appealed to Tambuwal to
\nreconstruct the state Local Government Service Commission and ensure dues
\nmeant to the union are released on time.<\/p>\n
He commended Tambuwal for his efforts to revive the fortunes of local
