Members of the Civil Society Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun<\/p>\n
State (CSCEO) today (Tuesday, January 26, 2016) in Abuja, the Federal
\nCapital Territory (FCT) has called on the National Assembly to
\nintervene in the financial mess Osun state found itself under Governor
\nRauf Aregbesola.<\/p>\n
This call was made during a peaceful demonstration held at the
\npremises of the National Assembly by members of the Coalition group
\nconsisting of about 20 civil and faith based organizations who
\nconverged at the complex as early as 7.30am.<\/p>\n
And in the petition submitted to both the Senate President, Dr. Bukola
\nSaraki and the House of Representatives Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara,
\nthe group asked the National Assembly to safen the state from imminent
\nstate of anarchy.<\/p>\n
In the letters which was received on behalf of Saraki and Dogara by
\nthe Deputy Sergeant-at-Arm, A.M Nnaji, the group listed 16 issues
\nbordering on alleged financial recklessness of the governor which
\ncaused the state to be receiving negative allocations from the
\nFederation Account.<\/p>\n
According to CSCEO in the letter signed by its Chairman, Comrade
\nAdeniyi Sulaiman and the Assistant Secretary, Comrade Gbenga Oyeleke,
\nthe group urged the National Assembly to support the demand of Osun
\ncitizens for a thorough and credible investigation of the deliberate
\nand criminal mismanagement of our meager resources by the duo of
\nAregbesola and Mrs. Grace Titi Laoye-Tomori, the deputy governor which
\naction is \u201cthreatening the peace and security of our state\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are here to show our grievances with the governance of our state
\nunder the dictatorship, grossly corrupt and oppressive rule of
\nAregbesola who has turned Osun state into a totalitarian state where
\ncitizens have no fundamental rights but only fundamental duties.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe governance of Osun state in the last five years has been
\ncharacterized by cluelessness, highhandedness, impunity, greed and
\nwanton disregard for time-tested principles of public management and
\ninternational best practices.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were promised banishment of poverty and hunger, peaceful
\nco-existence and all-round development and prosperity but what do we
\nhave five years after; poverty, hunger and starvation, backwardness,
\nsocial insecurity, mutual suspicion and religious disharmony, sickness
\nand deaths.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs it stands today, Osun is a failed state under the watch of Rauf
\nAdesoji Aregbesola and his rubber stamped legislators whose failure to
\nperform their oversight functions as representative of the people is
\ngrossly responsible for the pitiable and precarious condition we have
\nfound ourselves. No matter how maladroit the governor may be, if the
\nHouse of Assembly had performed its functions as enshrined in the
\nconstitution, things would have been different.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the light of the following and in the spirit of the
\nanti-corruption crusade of the All Progressives Congress(APC) led-
\ngovernment of President Muhammadu Buhari, we are hereby requesting the
\nintervention of your good self and the distinguished members of the
\nSenate to support the demand of Osun citizens for a thorough and
\ncredible investigation of the deliberate and criminal mismanagement of
\nour meager resources by the duo of Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola and
\nMrs. Grace Titi Laoye-Tomori, governor and deputy governor of Osun
\nstate respectively which action is threatening the peace and security
\nof our state.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will like you to use your good offices as worthy representatives
\nof the people to compel the EFCC and ICPC to act on our petitions
\nwhich they duly received but which they have decided to bury. Any
\nattempt to bury them further may portray President Muhammadu Buhari
\nand his APC led government as being insincere with their
\nanti-corruption crusade.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will like to counsel here that what is good for the goose should
\nalso be good for the gander. There should be no sacred cows in the
\nimplementation of Mr. President\u2019s anti-corruption campaign as it is
\nwell known that charity must begin at home.<\/p>\n
\u201cFinally, we will like to inform you that we shall do all that are
\nwithin the provisions of the of the amended 1999 Constitution to
\neffect the recall of the unscrupulous rubberstamp legislators of the
\nOsun State House of Assembly by their constituencies.<\/p>\n
During the rally, protesters carried placards some of which read,
\n\u201cOsun people want FG to take Osun from Rauf Aregbesola\u201d, \u201cNASS, Osun
\nPensioners are dying\u201d, \u201cAregbesola must go\u201d, \u201cNo to Minus-Allocation\u201d
