President Muhammadu Buhari said Friday in Addis Ababa that Nigeria will
\nfully redeem its pledge of $100 Million for the Multinational Joint Task
\nForce (MNJTF) to enhance the operations of the Task Force against Boko
\nHaram.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a high-level meeting of the African Union (AU) Peace and
\nSecurity Council, President Buhari said that having already released $21
\nMillion to the task force in June last year, Nigeria will remit the
\nbalance of $79 Million very soon.<\/p>\n
President Buhari also assured the Council that Boko Haram\u2019s capacity to
\nconduct conventional attacks has been \u201cheavily degraded\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs at now, there is no single Nigerian territory under the control of the
\ninsurgents other than their hideouts in Sambisa Forest.<\/p>\n
\u201cDisplaced persons (IDPs) are now being resettled in their respective homes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis feat totally accords with our promise to Nigerians to rid the
\ncountry of terrorism and extremism within few months of our assumption of
\noffice.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur efforts are already yielding dividends and we will not relent until
\nthe terrorist groups are totally decimated and wiped out of our country
\nand sub-region,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n
The President also reaffirmed Nigeria\u2019s readiness to support measures to
\nend the conflicts in Burundi and South Sudan, including the proposed
\ndeployment of troops by the AU to Burundi.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me re-iterate Nigeria\u2019s deep commitment to ensuring durable peace,
\nstability and security on our continent.<\/p>\n
\u201cWithout peace, there will be no development. It is therefore vital for
\nall of us to join hands in taking appropriate measures to end the
\nconflicts and bring a stop to the incalculable damage being inflicted on
\ninnocent citizens in the affected countries,\u201d the President told
\nparticipants at the meeting.<\/p>\n
