Senator Andy Uba (PDP-Anambra South) says the January 29 judgment of the<\/p>\n
Supreme Court in respect of the political situation in Anambra did not
\nvoid his election into the Senate as being misrepresented.<\/p>\n
This was contained in a statement he personally signed and made available
\nto NAN in Abuja on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The statement, however, urged his supporters to remain calm, law abiding
\nand disregard the misrepresentation of the court\u2019s ruling.<\/p>\n
It said that the Supreme Court ruling dealt primarily with leadership of
\nthe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.<\/p>\n
The statement further explained that the spirit and letter of the judgment
\nwere misrepresented as none of the National Assembly members from the
\nstate was a party to the suit, adding that their positions could not have
\nbeen affected by the court ruling.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt should furthermore be noted that neither I, Sen. Andy Uba in
\nparticular, nor all the other members of NASS from Anambra State was ever
\nmentioned in the body of the ruling.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not my first encounter with the Supreme Court. I have a history
\nof subjecting myself to the ruling of the Supreme Court, however
\nunpalatable they may be to my person.<\/p>\n
\u201cNigerians will recall that in 2007 when the Supreme Court, in it\u2019s
\nwisdom, ruled against me as the then governor of Anambra State, that as a
\nlaw abiding citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and in spite of
\npersonal consequences to my person and the people of Anambra State, I
\nvacated office as ordered.<\/p>\n
\u201cI, therefore, having been so advised by my lawyers and having gone
\nthrough the contents of the ruling of the judgment, understand it to what
\nthe Supreme Court intended unequivocally to be a suit determining the
\nleadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra State and no other
\nmatter.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will, therefore, enjoin my supporters, the people of my constituency
\nand all well-meaning Nigerians to disregard previous misrepresentation of
\nthe informed ruling of the revered Justices of the Supreme Court,\u201d the
\nstatement added.<\/p>\n
It would be recalled that Sen. Stella Oduah had also in a statement on
\nFriday in Abuja, described as \u201ca misinterpretation\u201d, media reports which
\nquoted a Supreme Court judgment to have sacked her and other federal
\nlawmakers from Anambra.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued by Cynthia Ferdinand, the Press Secretary to Sen.
\nOduah, said that the report in the media was misleading as the apex court
\ndid not order the withdrawal of her certificate of return.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the media said that the apex court had ordered the replacement
\nof Oduah and other federal lawmakers from the state, saying that their
\nnomination to contest in the 2015 election was wrong.<\/p>\n
