Manchester City have announced Pep Guardiola will take over as their new
\nmanager at the end of the season after Manuel Pellegrini confirmed he will
\nleave the club in June.<\/p>\n

Guardiola had already revealed he would depart Bayern Munich at the
\nconclusion of the 2015-16 campaign and City have now confirmed the Etihad
\nStadium will be his next destination.<\/p>\n

The Premier League club’s statement read: “Manchester City can confirm
\nthat in recent weeks it has commenced and finalized contractual
\nnegotiations with Pep Guardiola to become MCFC Head Coach for the 2016-17
\nEPL season onwards.<\/p>\n

“The contract is for three years. These negotiations were a
\nre-commencement of discussions that were curtailed in 2012.<\/p>\n

“Out of respect for Manuel Pellegrini and the players, the club wishes to
\nmake its decision public to remove the unnecessary burden of speculation.<\/p>\n

“Manuel, who is fully supportive of the decision to make this
\ncommunication, is entirely focused on achieving his targets for the season
\nahead and retains the respect and commitment of all involved with the
\nleadership of the club.”<\/p>\n

Pellegrini signed a one-year extension last August to tie him to the club
\nuntil 2017 but will now go when his previous deal was due to expire.<\/p>\n

He told a news conference: “I talked with the club and told them I will
\nfinish my contract on the original date [June 30].<\/p>\n

“I could have extended my contract for one more year, but decided not to.
\nThere has been a lot of speculation, but they are not doing anything
\nbehind me.<\/p>\n

“I don’t think it is good for this room to be speculating about me so that
\nis why I have told the press and the players. I spoke with the club two
\nweeks ago.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
