In fulfilment of his promise to make sacrifice in order to create
\nopportunities for other less disadvantaged Cross Riverians by expanding
\ngovernment, Cross River State governor, Senator\u00a0 Ben Ayade, yesterday
\nvoluntarily slashed his salary by 80% .<\/p>\n
In the same vein, the deputy governor, Prof. Ivara Esu , the Secretary to
\nthe State Government, Barr. Tina Banku Agbor and all the executive council
\nmembers have similarly slashed their salaries by 20%.<\/p>\n
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Barr. Rosemary Archibong
\nannounced the decision at a press conference at the Ernest Etim Bassey
\nPress Center Calabar.<\/p>\n
According to her, “this is predicated on the fact that the governor, Prof.
\nBen Ayade wants governance to reach as far as it can possibly reach while
\nincreasing participation in government.”<\/p>\n
Archibong explained that “with a lot of financial burden, we decided
\nvoluntarily to forego part of our emolument to help meet the personnel
\nneeds,\u00a0 human needs of Cross River state government in support of its
\nvision,\u00a0 policies and programs. ”<\/p>\n
The Information commissioner said the initiative was also geared towards
\nensuring that “our brothers and sisters coming to government will go home
\nwith something.”\u00fd<\/p>\n
She further enjoined Cross Riverians to rally round in support of the
\npassion and human relation based governance of Prof. Ben Ayade, pointing
\nout that the slash has nothing to do with salaries of civil servants and
\nwill not go into any capital
\nexpenditure.<\/p>\n
Commissioners present at the briefing were that of, Social Housing,
\nSustainable Development, Lands,\u00a0 Commerce, New City and Gas Resources.<\/p>\n
Others were commissioners for special projects,\u00a0 Environment,\u00a0 Finance,
\nPetroleum Resources, Agriculture, Infrastructure and International
