{"id":46380,"date":"2016-02-10T11:00:39","date_gmt":"2016-02-10T10:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=46380"},"modified":"2016-02-10T11:00:39","modified_gmt":"2016-02-10T10:00:39","slug":"scourt-judgments-era-manipulating-judiciary-election-victory-dickson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/scourt-judgments-era-manipulating-judiciary-election-victory-dickson\/","title":{"rendered":"S&#8217;Court judgments: Era of manipulating judiciary for election victory is over &#8211; Dickson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1634511757\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Tuesday<\/span><\/span> said that the era<br \/>\nof deceiving the Judiciary to get judgments and electoral victory through<br \/>\nthe backdoor\u00a0 was over in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>He premised this optimism on the Supreme Court ruling on the governorship<br \/>\nelection in Rivers, Abia and Akwa-Ibom States.<\/p>\n<p>Dickson had while attributing his victory over the APC and its candidate,<br \/>\nTimipre Sylva in the recently-conclude election to the divine<br \/>\nintervention, insisted that his opponent was relying on the judiciary to<br \/>\nmake him governor.<\/p>\n<p>A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said the<br \/>\ngovernor&#8217;s spoke on a live Radio and Television programme in Yenagoa,<br \/>\nwhere he was emphatic that it would be foolhardy for anyone to think that<br \/>\nhe could upturn the decision of the people by manipulating the judicial<br \/>\nprocess.<\/p>\n<p>While expressing his readiness to face the All Progressives Congress (APC)<br \/>\nat the Election Petition Tribunal, Dickson argued that, there were enough<br \/>\nevidence to counter all the issues raised in their petition, &#8220;even though<br \/>\nI am yet to be served.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Election into public offices, according to him, is all about the people<br \/>\nand since they have spoken through their votes, it will be difficult for<br \/>\nit to be upturned.<\/p>\n<p>Having won in seven out of the eight LGAs of Bayelsa state, Dickson said,<br \/>\nhe was not ready to comment on the case, as it would tantamount to<br \/>\nsubjudice.<\/p>\n<p>He wondered the kind of magic the APC was expecting at the Tribunal.<\/p>\n<p>Dickson said, &#8220;I am very surprised that, instead of congratulating me and<br \/>\nworking with us to rebuild our state to move forward as a people, he is<br \/>\nbeing misled or is misleading others to think that the Judiciary can be<br \/>\nmanipulated to see how they can upturn the popular will of the people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe that the recent judgment of the Supreme Court and the recent<br \/>\nposture of the Supreme Court should make people to think twice. The<br \/>\nmessage from the Judiciary, now is that, those who want to be governors<br \/>\nshould win popular votes from their people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe message is that, you cannot lose an election; rejected by your people<br \/>\nat the polls and then come through the back door to hoodwink the Judiciary<br \/>\nto give you a mandate that your people never gave you.
