Nigeria\u2019s senate president, Bukola Saraki has revealed that the senate has<\/p>\n
directed the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to suspend
\nincrease of electricity tariff.<\/p>\n
Saraki in a post on social media said the move became necessary because an
\nincrease in cost without improvement in service delivered is unacceptable.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, the 8th Senate directed the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory
\nCommission (NERC) to immediately suspend the February 1st, 2016 tariff
\nhikes, which are estimated to be upwards of 40 per cent,\u201d Saraki said.
\n\u201cThis move is necessary because any increase in cost, without the
\nnecessary improvement in service delivery by the power companies is
\nunacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cFurthermore, the power distribution companies must work to ensure that
\nevery establishment in Nigeria is provided with capabilities for metered
\nbilling.<\/p>\n
\u201cDoing this would end the sharp practice of arbitrary billing, which
\nestimates the power consumption of Nigerians in the generation of their
