The Supreme Court on Monday said the All Progressive Congress (APC) and<\/p>\n
its governorship candidate in Taraba, Aisha Alhassan, had no locus standi
\nto challenge the nomination of Governor Darius Ishiaku by his party.<\/p>\n
The apex court made the declaration while giving reasons for dismissing
\nthe appeal of APC and Alhassan in its judgement on February 11.<\/p>\n
Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, who read details of the judgement, said the
\nappeals and cross appeals had no redeemable substance.<\/p>\n
The court held that the governor was duly sponsored by the Peoples
\nDemocratic Party (PDP) to contest in the election, adding that evidence
\nbrought before it had confirmed Ishiaku\u2019s membership of the party.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe matter is very simple, the apex court has ruled on matters of this
\nnature at different occasions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no way a candidate of another political party who did not
\nparticipate in the primaries of another political party could suddenly
\nrise to challenge the conduct of such an exercise.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is therefore, clear that the appeals and all the cross appeals against
\nthe election of Governor Darius Ishiaku of Taraba have no redeemable
\nsubstance,\u201d Rhodes-Vivour held.<\/p>\n
The apex court also declared that the Taraba State Governorship Election
\nPetition Tribunal grossly misdirected itself by upturning Ishiaku\u2019s
\nvictory.<\/p>\n
NAN recalls that the tribunal had nullified the governor\u2019s election and
\nwent ahead to declare Alhassan as duly elected governor of Taraba.<\/p>\n
An appeal by Ishiaku set aside the tribunal judgement, prompting Alhassan
\nand the APC to approach the apex court, which dismissed their appeals and
\naffirmed the validity of the governor\u2019s election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
