President Muhammadu Buhari said late Tuesday<\/span><\/span> in Riyadh that his
\nadministration was fully committed to increasing the productivity of
\nNigeria\u2019s agriculture and solid minerals sectors to save the nation from
\nthe harsh effects of lower crude oil prices.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a meeting with leading members of the Council of Saudi
\nArabia\u2019s Chambers of Commerce and Industry, President Buhari said that
\nwith declining revenues from crude oil exports, Nigeria\u2019s hopes of
\neconomic resurgence now lie in the rapid development of its immense
\nagricultural and solid mineral resources.<\/p>\n

Inviting Saudi Arabian businessmen to invest in both sectors, the
\nPresident said that his administration will welcome greater foreign
\ninvestment in support of its efforts to rapidly diversify the Nigerian
\neconomy.<\/p>\n

President Buhari said that Nigeria had regrettably depended too much on
\ncrude oil exports to the neglect of other resources and was now paying a
\nharsh price for failing to diversify its economy early enough.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the downturn in the global prices of oil, we now have to prospect
\nour solid minerals. We have to return to agriculture. Mining and
\nagriculture are our hopes now. We will welcome investments in these areas.
\nWe will appreciate an in-flow of\u00a0 more resources and expertise to help us
\nachieve our objective of economic diversification,” the President said.<\/p>\n

The governors of Osun, Ogun, Katsina, Borno, and Zamfara states, who were
\npart of the President’s delegation, took turns to address the Saudi
\nArabian businessmen on investment possibilities in their states, assuring
\nthem of good returns.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of the Council of the Saudi Arabian Chambers of Commerce and
\nIndustry, Dr Abdulrahman Al Zamil\u00a0 said that agriculture was a very
\nimportant area of investment for its members, adding that they were
\nalready in Brazil, the United States of America and Sudan, “where we have
\nhuge farms.”<\/p>\n

Declaring that they were willing to invest in Nigeria, Dr\u00a0 Abdulrahman Al
\nZamil said that the Saudis were the leading investors in Egypt, Morocco,
