Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described as worrisome,
\nthe silence of President Mohammadu Buhari on the alleged killing of
\nharmless Nigerians by Fulani Herdsmen, saying; \u201cwanton murder of over
\n300 Agatu people of Benue State and the silence of the Federal
\nGovernment on this genocide is a clear invitation to chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n

The governor, who described activities of the Fulani Herdsmen as
\ninimical to the revival of agriculture in the country said; \u201cFarmlands
\ncosting billions of naira have been destroyed in States in the
\nSouth-West, South-East and North-Central zones of the country. One
\nwonders how Nigerians can go back to farming when those already in the
\nfarms are losing billions of naira worth of crops to destruction of
\ntheir farmlands by the Fulani Herdsmen and the Federal Government is
\nnot doing anything about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a release issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Public
\nCommunications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose, who
\nexpressed his sympathy to the victims and their families, added that
\nthe Federal Government must stop playing ostrich to the menace of the
\nFulani Herdsmen.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf in the last one week, over 300 Nigerians were allegedly killed,
\nseveral villages razed, with farmlands destroyed by Fulani Herdsmen
\nand President Buhari is comfortable junketing from one country to the
\nother, something is definitely wrong somewhere.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is because in saner climes, no country will have over 300 of its
\ncitizens reportedly killed with thousands others displaced and the
\nleader of such country will not rush home from wherever he is to take
\ncharge of the situation by himself,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n

He said President Buhari must be reminded how he led a delegation of
\nArewa leaders to Ibadan on October 13, 2000, to confront the then
\nGovernor of Oyo State, Late Alhaji Lam Adesina over alleged killing of
\nFulani Herdsmen in Saki, Oke Ogun Area of the state.<\/p>\n

The Governor asked; \u201cIf 16 years ago, President Buhari could be so
\nconcerned about the killing of Fulani Herdsmen in Oyo State such that
\nhe, as a private citizen led Arewa leaders to Ibadan to show their
\nanger, why is the President silent now that Fulani Herdsmen are the
\nones allegedly killing people, raping women and destroying farmlands
\nin Benue State in particular and other States in the country?<\/p>\n

\u201cIs the President unmindful of the possibility of Nigerians seeing his
\nsilence as conspiracy?<\/p>\n

\u201cMost importantly, what has Boko Haram caused Nigeria that the Fulani
\nHerdsmen are not also causing now?\u201d<\/p>\n

While challenging the umbrella body of cattle breeders, the Miyetti
\nAllah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in particular
\nand Northern leaders in general to wade into the persistent
\ninvolvement of herdsmen in attack on communities, killing and raping
\nof Nigerians, Governor Fayose said; \u201cNigeria is still battling Boko
\nHaram and the country cannot afford another regime of anarchy, which
\nthis persistence killing of Nigerians by the Fulani Herdsmen can
\ncause.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
