The National Judicial Council, under the chairmanship of Justice Mahmud
\nMohammed, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, has barred Justice Rita
\nOfili-Ajumogobia of the federal High Court from being elevated to the
\nCourt of Appeal, or any higher judicial body till her retirement.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Ofili-Ajumogobia was also placed on the council\u2019s \u201cwatch-list\u201d for
\nthe next four years.<\/p>\n
The judge was sanctioned for \u201cmisconduct and alleged injustice\u201d.<\/p>\n
The judicial council took the decision at its meetings on February 24 and
\n25, a statement signed by its acting director of information, Soji Oye,
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Hon. Judge will also not be considered for any elevation to the Court
\nof Appeal or any Ad-hoc Judicial appointment till her retirement from the
\nBench,\u201d the council said.<\/p>\n
The decision was sequel to the petition written against her by Victoria
\nAyeni alleging misconduct and injustice on the part of Mrs.
\nOfili-Ajumogobia for failing to deliver judgment in Suit No
\nFHC\/AB\/CS\/31\/2011, a pre-election matter between Victoria A. A. Ayeni and
\nOlusola Sonuga and two others.<\/p>\n
The judge was also alleged to have adjourned the pre-election matter
\nrepeatedly until the termination of the life span of the Ogun State House
\nof Assembly.<\/p>\n
The decision of the council on Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia is with immediate
