Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has declared that even if the
\nState was invaded by one million armed men of the Department of State
\nService (DSS) on the order of President Mohammadu Buhari, the
\ngovernment and the people of the State will never be intimidated to
\nsurrender governance of the State to political desperadoes, whose four
\nyears reign destroyed the economy of the State.<\/p>\n
The governor, who said the DSS under President Buhari was operating
\nbeyond its constitutional mandate, added that \u201cthe government of Ekiti
\nState may have to reconsider the usefulness of men of the DSS in the
\ngovernment house and other institutions of the State government.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a release issued on Sunday and signed by the Special Assistant to
\nthe governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka,
\nGovernor Fayose said the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal
\nGovernment was pursuing a clandestine agenda of truncating democracy
\nin Ekiti State and other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) controlled
\nStates like Rivers and Bayelsa.<\/p>\n
He said; \u201cIf Buhari likes, let him relocate all DSS men in Nigeria
\nwith the entire ammunitions in their armoury to Ekiti, the will of
\nEkiti people can never be broken. They will only try, and like they
\nhave always done, they will fail because dictatorship has never
\ntriumphed over the people. Even Buhari\u2019s dictatorship between 1984 and
\n1985 ended one day and Nigerians will also outlive his present
\ndictatorship.\u201d<\/p>\n
The governor said the DSS under Buhari\u2019s kinsman; Lawal Daura has
\nabandoned its core mandate of providing intelligence for the
\nprotection of the internal security of Nigeria as provided in the
\nSecurity Agencies Act Cap. N74 LFN, 2004 adding that; \u201cInstead of
\nassisting the Police, Military and other security agencies with
\nclassified matters, we now have a DSS that is running after perceived
\nopponents of the president, arresting goat and fowl thieves as well as
\nhusbands who assaulted their wives.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the DSS was alive to its responsibilities, we won\u2019t be having Boko
\nHaram insurgents killing Nigerians, all these kidnappings and Fulani
\nHerdsmen killings, raping and destroying farmlands in the South-West,
\nSouth-East and North-Central zones in the country would have been
\nnipped in the bud.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the same way President Buhari used the National Security
\nOrganisation (NSO), headed by Ambassador Mohammed Lawal Rafindadi from
\nKatsina State is the same way the President is using the DSS, headed
\nby another of his kinsman, Lawal Daura to harass, oppress and
\nintimidate Nigerians.<\/p>\n
Governor Fayose said; \u201cit is obvious that democracy in Nigeria is
\nbecoming unsafe in the hands of Buhari and his APC and those keeping
\nsilent now because of politics may also end up in the belly of this
\nroaring lion that is threatening to consume our democracy.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, Nigerians and the international community should take
\nspecial notice of the use of the DSS and Economic and Financial Crimes
\nCommission (EFCC) to muscle opposition.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs for me, I wish to say once again that I am not among those
\nNigerians that are afraid of harassment by any agency of the federal
\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
\u201cI make bold to state that in the overall interest of democracy and
\nwell-being of Nigerians, I will continue to speak my mind on issues
