{"id":47569,"date":"2016-03-15T10:14:31","date_gmt":"2016-03-15T09:14:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=47569"},"modified":"2016-03-15T14:15:30","modified_gmt":"2016-03-15T13:15:30","slug":"pupils-desert-schools-eating-free-meals-kaduna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/pupils-desert-schools-eating-free-meals-kaduna\/","title":{"rendered":"Pupils Desert Schools After Eating Free Meals in Kaduna"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1458040435087_13304\" dir=\"ltr\">Kaduna State Government is really troubled by a trend where primary school pupils varnish daily after eating free meals.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1458040435087_13308\" dir=\"ltr\">The pupils have developed the habit of leaving school immediately after the free meal under the guise of going to drink water.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1458040435087_13302\" dir=\"ltr\">The state\u2019s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Shehu Adamu, told newsmen in Kaduna that government was disturbed by the situation.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1458040435087_13301\" dir=\"ltr\">He appealed to parents to ensure that children remain in school after taking their free meals, so as not to jeopardise the programme. Adamu said that parents must also ensure that no child returned home until closing hours, \u201cotherwise the aim would be defeated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1458040435087_13300\" dir=\"ltr\">The commissioner stressed that the programme was introduced to encourage school enrolment, attendance and retention. He said: \u201cThe main goal of the school feeding programme is to attract out-of-school children to school and keep them in class for them to acquire education and better their lives. \u201cWe will not allow a situation where children will just come to school and leave the moment they finished eating their meals; if it is about water, we have already asked parents to provide water for their children.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1458040435087_13298\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cTherefore, parents have a responsibility of ensuring that the children do not only come to school on time, but remain in school till closing hours.\u201d On the delay in paying vendors supplying food under the programme, he said they had been directed to open account with Heritage Bank through which they would be getting their payments.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kaduna State Government is really troubled by a trend where primary school pupils varnish daily after eating free meals.
