Sokoto government has set up a technical committee for the establishment of
\na new fertiliser plant in the state.<\/p>\n
The plant will be established by Prime Gold Fertiliser and Chemical
\nCompany, an indigenous company based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.<\/p>\n
Inaugurating the committee in Sokoto Tuesday, the Secretary to the State
\nGovernment (SSG), Professor Bashir Garba, said the project is of prime
\nimportance to the government and will will do everything possible to ensure
\nit comes to fruition.<\/p>\n
He said the technical committee will study and appraise the proposal sent
\nby Prime Gold Fertiliser Company towards ascertaining its credibility and
\nfeasibility while securing a fair deal for the state government under a
\npublic private partnership (PPP) arrangement.<\/p>\n
“The committee will also identify a suitable location for the setting of
\nthe proposed company, as well as determining the scope and equity
\nparticipation of the Sokoto state government,” the SSG said.<\/p>\n
According to him, it will also recommend appropriate sources of project
\nfinancing by the state in terms of the equity participation to be proposed
\nto the government.<\/p>\n
The committee, which has four weeks within which to submit its report, will
\nbe headed by the state commissioner of solid minerals and natural resources
\ndevelopment, Hon Bello Goronyo.<\/p>\n
Other members include the commissioner of commerce, Aminu Bello Sokoto, DG
\nof the state Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, Sani
\nMusa, representative of the state ministries of agriculture and justice, as
\nwell as representative of the Raw Materials Research and Development
\nCouncil (RMRDC).<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Sokoto state government has also inaugurated the state
\nOrphanages Management Committee under the leadership of Dr. Malami Muhammad
\nBankanu.<\/p>\n
Other members are Alhaji Sabitu Kebbe, Malam Nura Attajiri and Mustapha
\nTangaza who will serve as the secretary.
