Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara\u00a0 has said that his administration will\u00a0 harmonise western and Islamic principles in the school curriculum to promote religious harmony.<\/p>\n
Ahmed made the statement in Ilorin on Monday at the 12th graduation ceremony of Darul Kitab Sunnah College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin.<\/p>\n
The governor, who was represented by his\u00a0 Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Mohammed Atolagbe, said the action would\u00a0 further promote religious tolerance in the state.<\/p>\n
The governor said his administration had already set the machinery in motion to perfect the harmonisation in such a way that the curriculum would be acceptable to all.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to harmonise western and Islamic education in such a way that everybody that goes to Islamic school can be brought in line with western education.<\/p>\n
\u201cGovernment is also prepared to issue dual certificate to students by the time the harmonisation of the two education systems is completed,\u201d Ahmed said.<\/p>\n
He commended the proprietor of Darul Kitab Wa Sunnah College, Dr AbdulQuadri Solagberu\u00a0 for running a free education programme in the school.<\/p>\n
The governor described the gesture of the proprietor as complementary to the state government\u2019s pragmatic approach to make education accessible to all. .<\/p>\n
In his remark, the Provost of the College, Dr. Faozy Fazazy, said that the college was graduating 379 students.<\/p>\n
