Dr. Dakuku Peterside, Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration
\nand Safety Agency, NIMASA narrowly escaped death this afternoon after his
\nvehicle was attacked by gunmen in two utility vehicles on his way from the
\nPort Harcourt International Airport.<\/p>\n

Peterside who was in his car with Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, Rivers State All
\nProgressives Congress, APC Chairman and Hon H.O. Asita, Deputy
\nGovernorship candidate of the APC in April 2015 election said they escaped
\nthe assassins bullets by a stroke of luck.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwo Jeeps belonging to Emeka Woke, Nyesom Wike\u2019s Chief of Staff carrying
\ntwo unknown gunmen trailed us to UTC Junction and opened fire on my car.
\nOur car however did a detour to the DSS office gate where we drove to seek
\nrefuge but the unknown gunmen opened fire again at the SSS men on guard.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe exchange of fire between the DSS men and the assailants lasted for
\nmore than 30 minutes. This is a very ugly experience but I thank God that
\nmy colleagues and I escaped unhurt\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s experience is not only terrifying but also shows the parlous
\nstate of security in Rivers State. If I can be engaged openly by gunmen
\nfor nearly an hour in the heart of Port Harcourt, only God knows the fate
\nthat will befall members of our party and those sympathetic to our
\npredicament. What is happening today in our dear state is not only
\nhorrible but also constitutes serious national security risk.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peterside who was Wike\u2019s opponent in last year\u2019s governorship election in
\nRivers State added that it is now evident that the governor wants to kill
\nhim and that he is prepared to do everything possible to eliminate him.<\/p>\n

#RiversRerun: Wike Accuses Peterside of Killing An Aide To His Chief of Staff<\/p>\n

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the rerun
\nelections in the state have\u00a0 shown clearly\u00a0 who is on ground\u00a0 and who is
\naccepted by\u00a0 the people.<\/p>\n

He said the rerun\u00a0 elections\u00a0 have proved that the control of\u00a0 INEC,
\nFederal might, military,\u00a0 police and other security\u00a0 agencies cannot not
\ntranslate to electoral victories\u00a0 as the people will always resist\u00a0 agents
\nof rigging.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike\u00a0 also accused the\u00a0 defeated the Rivers State APC
\nGovernorship Candidate, Dakuku Peterside and his\u00a0 defeated running Asita
\nAsita of hijacking results\u00a0 from Isiokpo in Ikwere LGA on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The governor\u00a0 also stated\u00a0 that\u00a0 Dakuku Peterside\u00a0 and his security
\ndetails opened fire and\u00a0 killed an aide to\u00a0 his Chief of Staff, Mr Emeka
\nWoke.<\/p>\n

In an interactive\u00a0 session\u00a0 with newsmen on Sunday,\u00a0 Governor Wike said
\nthat most military\u00a0 men deployed\u00a0 for the elections\u00a0 were used by APC
\nleaders to hijack\u00a0 materials,\u00a0 illegally arrest PDP\u00a0 and manipulate\u00a0 the
\nprocess.<\/p>\n

He said\u00a0 that\u00a0 the\u00a0 people resisted the attempt by the\u00a0 military\u00a0 to
\nsubvert the election\u00a0 process.<\/p>\n

“Remember I warned that today’s\u00a0 Nigeria\u00a0 is not yesterday’s\u00a0 Nigeria.
\nThings\u00a0 that were done wrongly before cannot be done wrongly now. I warned
\nthat\u00a0 the\u00a0 people\u00a0 will resist any attempt\u00a0 to\u00a0 rig”, he said .<\/p>\n

He said that it was unfortunate\u00a0 that\u00a0 the\u00a0 military\u00a0 has been reduced to
\nthis level when they will be used against\u00a0 public\u00a0 interest.<\/p>\n

He said\u00a0 the\u00a0 number of\u00a0 military\u00a0 men unleashed\u00a0 to intimidate\u00a0 and
\nharass\u00a0 Rivers people\u00a0 is regrettable\u00a0 as they failed\u00a0 to\u00a0 tackle security
\nchallenges.<\/p>\n

“Now they have the Federal might, Army, Police,\u00a0 INEC and DSS,\u00a0 but we
\nhave the people” , Governor Wike said.<\/p>\n

On the\u00a0 conduct\u00a0 of\u00a0 the rerun legislative elections, Governor Wike
\nmaintained\u00a0 that INEC was not prepared\u00a0 in terms of logistics\u00a0 and
\nplanning.<\/p>\n

On the issue at the Mile 1 Police Station,\u00a0 the governor\u00a0 said that Mrs
\nEkwi Adebisa is the girlfriend\u00a0 of the APC Candidate\u00a0 for the Port
\nHarcourt Federal Constituency who framed her abduction\u00a0 alongside APC
