President Muhammadu Buhari congratulates the President-elect of Benin<\/p>\n
Republic, Mr Patrice Talon, on his electoral victory in the presidential<\/p>\n
run-off on Sunday, March 20, 2015, as announced by the Autonomous National<\/p>\n
Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
President Buhari also commends the Government and people of Benin Republic<\/p>\n
on the peaceful and orderly conduct of the presidential elections.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He salutes the courage and statesmanship of Prime Minister Lionel Zinsou<\/p>\n
and presidential candidate of the ruling coalition, in upholding the<\/p>\n
democratic process by promptly congratulating his main challenger, Mr<\/p>\n
Talon, on his electoral victory.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The President also commends President Boni Yayi for his leadership<\/p>\n
throughout the electoral process and for his invaluable contribution to<\/p>\n
democratic governance in the sub-region, evidently demonstrated in the<\/p>\n
successful conduct of the presidential elections.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The President is encouraged by the determination and exemplary conduct<\/p>\n
demonstrated by Beninese in coming out en masse to perform their civic<\/p>\n
duties.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
President Buhari believes that the successful conclusion of the electoral<\/p>\n
process marks an important step in consolidating democracy in the<\/p>\n
sub-region and a beacon for other African countries to emulate.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The President trusts that the Beninese will give the incoming government<\/p>\n
all the necessary support to succeed and reaffirms that Nigeria, as a<\/p>\n
beneficiary of the dividends of democracy, will continue to build strong<\/p>\n
partnerships with her neighbours for the peace, progress and prosperity of<\/p>\n
our citizens.<\/p>\n
