Wife of Nigeria\u2019s President, Aisha Buhari has denied report by the Peoples<\/p>\n
Democratic Party that she is involved in illegal foreign exchange dealings
\nwith the central Bank of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
The PDP on its Twitter handle Saturday claimed that Aisha Buhari was a
\nbeneficiary of dollar allocations from the CBN, alleging that she got the
\ndollars below the official exchange rate of N197. Aisha\u2019s company was also
\naccused of collecting $22million at the rate of N185 and then selling it
\noff at N362 same day.<\/p>\n
The first lady on her twitter handle on Sunday denied the allegations
\nthreatening to take action against the PDP<\/p>\n
“Be advised, any further attempt to malign the person of the Wife of the
\nPresident will be dealt with according to the law. This is grounds for a
\nlawsuit on defamation of character.”<\/p>\n
“Making false and unfounded allegations without proof just to incite
\nNigerians on social media is wrong.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said it does not sell
\nforeign exchange to individuals or groups, clarifying that it sells forex
\nin wholesale to banks who in turn resell to their customers at their
\ndiscretion.<\/p>\n
According to the CBN’s official twitter post, @cenbank never sold dollars
\nat N185 – $1. Devaluations were from N155 to N167 and N197.<\/p>\n

2). CBN only does wholesale allocation to banks (Selling dollars to banks
\nat wholesale). Only banks can determine customers they sell to.<\/p>\n

4. Banks publish final recipients of dollars every week in all major
\nnewspapers as directed by the #CBN, so as to promote transparency.<\/p>\n
5. So the PDP is only being mischievous and silly. What\u2019s the big revelation?<\/p>\n
6. How did PDP know how much the recipients sold the dollars in the open
\nmarket even if they ended up doing so?<\/p>\n
7. Simply another smear campaign by Gov. Emefiele’s detractors to connect
\nhis name to everything wrong, both imagined, fabricated, or real<\/p>\n
