The Presidency has told Nigerians who complain about lack of electricity<\/p>\n
to go and hold vandals responsible and stop blaming President Mohammadu
\nBuhari.<\/p>\n
Presidential Spokesman, Mr. Femi while answering questions on
\nPoliticsToday, a Channels Television daily political program, said vandals
\nand not the President or his Government are responsible for blackouts
\nbeing experienced in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
“After we had 5,000 megawatts, there was vandalism in Bayelsa state and we
\nlost 1,600megawatts in one day and then another in Delta State and we lost
\nanother 1,000 megawatts.<\/p>\n
“So if some people are crying that they are in darkness, they should go
\nand hold thos who vandalize installations; that is it.”
\nThe Media and Publicity Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, said
\ndespite the vandalization, the 10,000 megawatts promised by the President
\nin 2019 is still realistic.<\/p>\n
He said \u201cWe are working tirelessly to protect critical national
\ninfrastructure from sabotage and vandalism, the cause of the catastrophic
\npower failures in the system while we build on infrastructure to attain
\n10,00MW as directed by Mr. President.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cIt is a four years mandate. We still have 36 months to go. I
\njust pray that those who have been so critical, so cynical will be humble
\nenough to eat their words when the goodies start coming.\u201d<\/p>\n
Adesina also noted that the just concluded National Economic Conference
\nwasn\u2019t held because Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, had called for it.<\/p>\n
\u201cProfessor Soyinka asked for an economic summit. But what happened was not
\nwhat he asked for. Because before Prof Soyinka asked for the economic
\nsummit, the National Economic Council had decided to hold what happened.\u201d
\n\u201cDon\u2019t forget that the President himself at an interview in Qatar said
\nyes, if the people want to sit down and hold a summit, the government is
\nnot averse to it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBut what happened last week was not what Prof Soyinka canvassed. The
\nNational Economic Council, had decided to hold that retreat before Prof
\nSoyinka spoke.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTo the best of my knowledge, it was fruitful. I was there at the opening
\nceremony. I guess a report is going to come out after that report, we will
\nbe able to judge.\u201d<\/p>\n
