\nPresident Muhammadu Buhari\u00a0Friday<\/span>\u00a0in Washington DC reaffirmed Nigeria’s
\ncommitment to the global fight against the threat of nuclear terrorism and
\nother forms of terrorism.<\/p>\n

In Nigeria’s country statement to the 4th Nuclear Security Summit being
\nhosted by President Barack Obama, President Buhari also pledged Nigeria’s
\ncontinued support for all multilateral efforts aimed\u00a0 at promoting a
\ncommon approach and commitment to nuclear security at the highest levels.<\/p>\n

“Nigeria accords high priority to all global efforts towards ending the
\nproliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery,
\nincluding nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n

“Nuclear terrorism is one of the greatest threats to international
\nsecurity and preventing nuclear terrorism and all forms of terrorism
\naround the globe is of concern to all of us.<\/p>\n

“To this end, Nigeria has strengthened the legal framework for fighting
\nterrorism through the adoption in 2013 of an amendment to its Terrorism
\n(Prevention) Act, ensuring the implementation of more robust
\ncounter-terrorism measures in the country,” the President said.<\/p>\n

President Buhari told the gathering that to enhance Nuclear Security,
\nNigeria has reinforced its cooperation with the International Atomic
\nEnergy Agency (IAEA), the United States Department of State\u2019s Partnership
\nfor Nuclear Security and the World Institute for Nuclear Security.<\/p>\n

“In addition, Nigeria has signed an agreement of cooperation with the
\nUnited States Department of Energy’s\u00a0 Office of Radiological Security to
\nprotect nuclear and other radiological materials from theft or sabotage.<\/p>\n

“Nigeria also intends to strengthen its partnerships with relevant
\ninternational organizations to promote capacity building, particularly in
\nthe development of the Nigerian Nuclear Security Support Centre, Physical
\nSecurity Upgrades and Human Reliability Programmes Implementation,” the
\nPresident said.<\/p>\n

President Buhari also said that Nigeria has developed a programme to
\nensure that radioactive sources in the country are\u00a0 better secured to
\nprevent unauthorized access by terrorists and criminals.<\/p>\n

The President\u00a0 praised President Obama’s “pace setting initiative and
\ndrive”, which, he said, has brought the global fight against the threat of
