{"id":48474,"date":"2016-04-13T16:49:04","date_gmt":"2016-04-13T15:49:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=48474"},"modified":"2016-04-13T16:49:04","modified_gmt":"2016-04-13T15:49:04","slug":"witness-says-oronsaye-deposited-n285m-fixed-deposit-account","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/witness-says-oronsaye-deposited-n285m-fixed-deposit-account\/","title":{"rendered":"Witness Says Oronsaye deposited N285m in fixed deposit account"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A prosecution witness, Olubunmi Ojoko, has told an FCT High Court that<br \/>\nStephen Oronsaye, called for the opening of the account for Presidential<br \/>\nCommittee on Financial Action Task Force.<\/p>\n<p>Ojoko, an account officer with Access Bank Plc.,and witness to the<br \/>\nEconomic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) gave the confirmation in<br \/>\nAbuja <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1508802754\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Wednesday<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Oronsaye, a former Head of Service of the Federation, and chairman of the<br \/>\ncommittee, was arraigned on two-count of criminal breach of trust of<br \/>\ndiverting N190 million meant for the committee.<\/p>\n<p>At the resumed hearing, Ojoko, the second EFCC witness, tendered documents<br \/>\nrelating to the opening of the account, account statements and<br \/>\ntransactions.<\/p>\n<p>Ojoko told the court that the defendant did not give her approval from the<br \/>\noffice of Accountant-General of the Federation when she demanded for it.<\/p>\n<p>She said that N285 million was deposited in the said account in four<br \/>\nstages of N50 million, N90 million, N45 million and N100 million.<\/p>\n<p>The witness said that the first to third stages of payment was from the<br \/>\nCentral Bank of Nigeria, while the last was from the office of the<br \/>\nNational Security Adviser.<\/p>\n<p>She said that the money was placed in fixed deposit for 90-day maturity at<br \/>\neach maturity the interest accrued was sent to some beneficiaries,<br \/>\nincluding Oronsaye.<\/p>\n<p>Ojoko said that 28 investments were made during the period and from<br \/>\nSeptember, 2013 to March 2015, the defendant withdrew about N35.4 million<br \/>\nfrom the account.<br \/>\nThe witness told the court that N163.5 million left with the bank had<br \/>\nbeen transferred in the treasury single account.<\/p>\n<p>Oronsaye\u2019s Counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), applied for a date to enable<br \/>\nhim study all documents tendered to cross-examine the witness.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Olasumbo Goodluck adjourned the case till <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1508802755\"><span class=\"aQJ\">April 14<\/span><\/span> for the<br \/>\ncontinuation of cross examination.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A prosecution witness, Olubunmi Ojoko, has told an FCT High Court that Stephen Oronsaye, called for the opening of the account for Presidential Committee on Financial Action Task Force.
