In a bid to empower small and medium scale business owners in the state,<\/p>\n
Rivers State Governor,\u00a0 Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has\u00a0 approved\u00a0 the
\ndisbursement\u00a0 of business\u00a0 loans to 35000 less privileged business
\noperators under the CBN N2billion Micro, Small and Medium Entreprises
\nDevelopment Fund.<\/p>\n
Under the first phase, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike approved\u00a0 a list of
\n35,000\u00a0 from the 23 Local Government Areas of the State.\u00a0 Amongst\u00a0 these
\nbeneficiaries\u00a0 are Indigenes and non-indigenes\u00a0 resident in Rivers State.<\/p>\n
The list of beneficiary small and medium scale business owners included:
\nbarbers, plantain sellers, restaurant owners, painters,\u00a0 tailors,
\nhairdressers, traders, market women, mechanics,\u00a0 fishermen, farmers etc.
\nThese are the ordinary\u00a0 folks committed to\u00a0 developing\u00a0 themselves\u00a0 with
\nthe support of the government.<\/p>\n
The empowerment\u00a0 loans approved by\u00a0 the\u00a0 governor\u00a0 is being distributed
\nby\u00a0 the\u00a0 Rivers State Micro Finance Agency.<\/p>\n
The beneficiaries got their loans in this order:<\/p>\n
1)\u00a0 Cosmopolitan Microfinance Bank: #9 Agudama street, D\/line Port
\nHarcourt. This is for the people of:\u00a0 Opobo\/Nkoro, Oyigbo ,Andoni,Asari
\nToru ,Bonny ,Degema, Eleme , Gokana , All Traders , Market women and all
\nnon Indigenes.<\/p>\n
2) RIMA Growth Pathway Microfinance Bank: Located at Rivers State
\nSecretariat Complex,\u00a0 Podium Block, Port Harcourt. This is for the people
\nof: Obio Akpor ,PHALGA ,Khana ,\u00a0 Okirika<\/p>\n
and Omuma .<\/p>\n
3) PREMIUM Microfinance Bank: plot 202 Olu Obasanjo Road, Port Harcourt.
\nThis is for the people of: Abua\/Odual ,Ahoada East ;Ahoada West ,Emohua
\n,Ogu\/Bolo ,Etche ,Ogba\/Egbema\/Ndoni , Akuku Toru ,Tai and Ikwere .<\/p>\n
The injection\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 N2billion into the businesses\u00a0 of the less
\nprivileged\u00a0 in the\u00a0 state\u00a0 has kick-started the expansion\u00a0 of\u00a0 many of
\nthese businesses.\u00a0 The multiplier effect is already being felt by the
\npeople in the lower rung of the economic\u00a0 ladder.\u00a0 The empowerment
\nprogramme has led to employment opportunities\u00a0 as several beneficiaries
\nhave expanded their businesses.<\/p>\n
Prior to\u00a0 the disbursement\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 loans ,\u00a0 Governor\u00a0 Wike organised a
\ntraining\u00a0 session\u00a0 for all the beneficiaries\u00a0 on how to effectively\u00a0 use
