{"id":48683,"date":"2016-04-21T16:20:05","date_gmt":"2016-04-21T15:20:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=48683"},"modified":"2016-04-21T16:51:43","modified_gmt":"2016-04-21T15:51:43","slug":"uproar-court-cct-chairman-loses-temper-threatens-expel-sarakifs-lawyer-unruly-behavior","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/uproar-court-cct-chairman-loses-temper-threatens-expel-sarakifs-lawyer-unruly-behavior\/","title":{"rendered":"Uproar In Court As CCT Chairman Loses Temper, Threatens To Expel Sarakifs Lawyer For Unruly Behavior"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wvUu9bWi_4g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There was commotion at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) today, as the\u00a0CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar, threatened to expel the Lawyer representing\u00a0the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, for unruly behavior.\u00a0Umar, lost his temper as Mr. Raphael Oluyede, Sarakifs lawyer, brought to\u00a0the attention of the court, a motion filed on Wednesday, April 20th, 2016,\u00a0seeking the CCT boss to disqualify himself from participating in the trial\u00a0based on bias.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The motion contended that the continued presence of Umar on the panel of \u00a0Tribunal offended the provisions of Section 36(1) of the Constitution of\u00a0the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which prescribes that In the\u00a0determination of his civil rights and obligations, including any question\u00a0or determination by or against any government or authority, a person shall\u00a0be entitled to a fair hearing within a reasonable time by a court or other\u00a0tribunal established by law and constituted in such manner as to secure\u00a0its independence and impartiality.\u00a0However, when Oluyede attempted to bring up the motion, Justice Umar lost\u00a0his temper and repeatedly yelled at Oluyede to Sit down.h\u00a0It will be recalled that with the main prosecution witnesses being drawn<br \/>\nfrom the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Umar as Chairman\u00a0of the CCT is an object of investigation for corrupt practices by the same\u00a0EFCC.\u00a0After Oluyede demanded to be heard, Umar, upset by the revelations, called\u00a0for police officers to throw out the counsel to the Senate President.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, Oluyede sat down on arrival of the police officers and maintained\u00a0that he would not be intimidated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EFCC had on Wednesday reiterated its position that there was no\u00a0concrete evidence of corruption that could provide grounds for the\u00a0prosecution of the Chairman of the CCT, Justice Umar.\u00a0The EFCC said the allegations against Justice Umar were suspicious and\u00a0insufficient.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a letter addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the\u00a0Federation, Babachir Lawal, the anti-graft agency said the CCT chair was\u00a0being cleared the second time after its personnel carried out a thorough\u00a0investigation on the petitions against him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Head of Public Relations of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Ibraheem\u00a0Al-hassan, who disclosed the details of the letter in a statement, said\u00a0the EFCC was responding to the conclusion of a petition against Mr. Umar\u00a0that he allegedly received a N10 million bribe from one Abdulrashid\u00a0Owolabi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The statement reads: The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)\u00a0has today conveyed a letter to the chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal\u00a0(CCT), Hon Danladi Yakubu Umar, exonerating him on the alleged N10 million\u00a0bribe by one AbdulRashid Owolabi, in his petition to the commission,\u00a0Alhassan said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The letter was addressed to the secretary to government of the federation, captioned RE: Investigation Report RE: N10million Bribery\u00a0Allegation against the Chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal, Abujaf with\u00a0reference NO: EFCC\/P\/NHRU\/688\/V.30\/99, dated 20th April, 2016\u0152.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0The letter, which was signed by Emmanuel Adegboyega Aremo, secretary to\u00a0the commission reads: Kindly recall our correspondence of 5th March,<br \/>\n2015, (reference EFCC\/EC\/SGF\/03\/56) with the above subject, please.
