Edo State lawmakers have advanced reasons why they kicked out the Speaker,<\/p>\n
Victor Edoror and his deputy, Bright Osayande from their exalted
\npositions.
\nThe lawmakers, who have elected the first female speaker, Mrs. Elizabeth
\nAtivie representing Uhunmwonde state constituency, cited alleged greed,
\ncorrupt practices, among other unethical practices as the reasons for
\nremoving the duo from offices.\u00a0\u00a0 Her deputy is Dr. Joseph Okonoboh
\nrepresenting Igueben State Constituency.
\nTo further compound his woes, the impeached Speaker has been slammed with
\nthree months suspension from legislative duty, but he has insisted that he
\nremains the Speaker of the Edo State Assembly.
\nThe house has raised a five member committee headed by the lawmaker
\nrepresenting Akoko Edo constituency one, Mr. Kabiru Adjoto to dig into the
\nfinancial recklessness of the impeached Speaker between June 2015 and\u00a0 May
\n3rd this year, as he is alleged to have six fraud cases before the
\nanti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
\nThe impeachment of the two principal members of the house had sparked fire
\nand armed thugs suspected to be loyal to the speaker reportedly invaded
\nthe house and shot sporadically into the air to scare the lawmakers and
\nothers who were at the gallery to watch the day\u2019s proceedings.
\nThere was heavy shooting by suspected thugs at the house of assembly
\ncomplex which forced people and traders at the popular Oba market and
\nadjoining streets and roads to scamper for safety.
\nSixteen out of the 24 APC and PDP lawmakers in the house signed the
\nimpeachment notice that was made available to newsmen in the state.
\nIt was gathered that trouble started when the member representing Owan
\nEast constituency and\u00a0 Majority Leader of the house, Mr. Folly Ogedegbe
\nmoved a motion to impeach speaker Edoror and the Deputy Speaker.
\nThe motion was seconded by Mr. Gani Audu representing Etsako West
\nconstituency 1.
\nAccording to the motion, \u201cWe the under listed and undersigned Honourable
\nmembers representing the various constituencies in the Edo State House of
\nAssembly have on this day 3rd of May 2016 resolved to impeach our speaker,
\nHon. (Chief) Victor Edoror Tiger and the Deputy Speaker Hon. Osayande for
\nacts of gross misconduct.\u201d
\nBefore Edoror\u2019s ouster, a speaker ex-tempo, Mr. Patrick Iluobe was
\nappointed by the lawmakers to preside over the business of the day.
\nThe new speaker, Rt. Hon. Ativie , while fielding reporters\u2019 questions,
\nsaid the members accused the former speaker of alleged greed and
\ncorruption, stating\u00a0 the lawmakers cannot tolerate an indecent character
\nto occupy the exalted position as speaker of the hallowed chamber.
\nThe new speaker stated that if the former speaker was found wanting at the
\nend of the three months within which the committee is expected to submit
\nits report, he will be handed over to the relevant authority for
\nprosecution.
\nSpeaking in the same vein, Mr. Kabiru Adjoto, alleged that the impeached
\nspeaker \u201cis violently corrupt who have flair for eating government money
\njust the way the red mouth squirrel has mouth for palm kernel\u201d, adding ,
\n\u201cAs it (Squirrel) is eating one, it is looking at another one that is how
\nEdoror is.\u201d
\nContinuing, he said:\u00a0 \u201cAs it is today, Edoror has a lot of EFCC case
\nhanging on his neck, and you media men can go and verify these we cannot
\nafford to have a speaker that is been investigated by the EFCC because of
\nhis corrupt nature.
\n\u2018\u2019As earlier mentioned by our new speaker, Edoror has a corrupt tendency
\nthat cannot be mentioned by one, enough is enough, that is while sixteen
\nmembers of the house today signed impeachment notice against him.\u00a0 As we
\nspeak today, both APC and PDP members in the house signed impeachment
\nnotice against him.\u201d
\nBut Edoror in his reaction said he remains the elected speaker of the
\nhouse, stressing that only eleven lawmakers were at the sitting in the
\nhallowed chambers when he was impeached.
\nIt was gathered that the house under Edoror had recently speared a summon
\non some commissioners in Oshiomhole\u2019s cabinet among whom were the
\ncommissioner for Finance and that of ESIEC and two others.
\nPart of the lawmakers queries on the commissioners who appeared before
\nthem were on the Edo University and the reason why the state electoral
\ncommission has not conducted election into the 18 local government
\ncouncils in the state.
\nAlso, under the watch of the embattled ex-speaker, the house sacked the 18
\nlocal government chairmen without reference to the state governor; a
\nmatter our Correspondent gathered did not go down well with the state
\ngovernment.
\nEdoror is seen as the only speaker whose tenure was short lived and the
\nlawmakers were also against him for not protecting their collective
