Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered the Economic and Financial Crime<\/p>\n
Commission (EFCC) to commence full investigation of the misappropriation
\nof Global Fund Grants Nigeria received from 2010 \u20132014.<\/p>\n
This was revealed Monday by the Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole who
\nsaid, “President Muhammadu Buhari gave the directive as part of
\ngovernment\u2019s effort and commitment to fight corruption in the country.<\/p>\n
The President has also directed the Secretary to the Government of
\nFederation to review earlier audit reports from the Office of Inspector
\nGeneral (OIG)”.<\/p>\n
Thus, the SGF has set-up two high-powered investigative panels to look in
\nto the affected programmes and the financial transactions.<\/p>\n
The first panel headed by the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole
\nwill conduct in-depth review of all programmes while the second panel
\nchaired by Auditor General of the Federation \u2013 Mr. Samuel Ukura – will
\nreview all financial transactions during the period.<\/p>\n
The two committees were expected to submit their reports within four weeks.<\/p>\n
“Mr. President assured members of the international community that all
\nfunds received by Nigeria would be well utilized and accounted for under
\nhis watch to avoid national embarrassment\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
He further said that all indicted officials would be given fair hearing
\nand those found guilty would be sanctioned to serve as deterrent to
\nothers.<\/p>\n
The recent OIG report by Global Fund indicted three agencies of Federal
\nGovernment of Nigeria for misappropriation of specific intervention grants
\nreleased, a statement by Director, Media and Public Relations, Mrs. Boade
\nAkinola, said.<\/p>\n
