\nDuring the foreign exchange palaver, the CBN Governor Emefiele admitted
\nthat President Buhari and wife bought dollars directly from the CBN at the
\nrate of N197.00 Naira and re-sold the dollar for N374.00. Initially so
\nmany people regarded it as wretched piece of propaganda. We were wrong
\nwhen the President himself was quoted as saying that his children could
\nschool abroad because he could afford the foreign exchange, and that those
\nwho could not afford it should keep their children in Nigeria. Then it
\noccurred to me that the broom revolution had collapsed. If the President
\nof Nigeria could make a statement like that then Nigeria is finished. That
\nwas when the broom revolution was about nine months old.
\nBritain also alleged that under President Buhari watch as President,
\n$42 billion had been fleeced away from NNPC. The Presidency and the
\nmassive media apparatus in Aso Rock could not honour Nigeria with a
\nparagraph of rebuttal, tacitly confirming that the allegation is true,
\nespecially with Buhari as the Petroleum Minister.
\nHere and there we could notice visible cracks of division in APC already,
\nand a faction of APC has vehemently called for the resignation of
\nPresident Buhari because according to them, he lacks the capacity to
\ngovern. When ill-health is added to lack of capacity, the result can only
\nbe disastrous, so it is with APC.
\nNigeria is now a tale of unmitigated disaster such that a colonizing power
\nBritain could describe Nigeria as fantastically corrupt. But why
\nnot? Buhari anti-corruption was is a political vendetta, as only PDP
\npeople are being prosecuted. Buhari can unashamedly investigate the
\ncampaign funds of PDP but has said nothing about the APC. Crooks in APC
\nare now being beatified while everybody of worth in PDP is persecuted.
\nUnder X-President Jonathan, PMS sold for N86.50 per litre and now the
\nPresident has officially announced that PMS is N145.00 per litre
\nFrom what we have seen so far, what President Buhari actually meant by
\nChange is that he would change his military uniform and put on agbada
\nwhich comes in different colours; he never promised to change his
\ndictatorial and tyrannical style of leadership. Most of his decisions are
\nunilateral, with little or no consultation and often titrated to favour
\nsectional interest. The interesting thing is that Buhari has not bothered
\nabout laying the foundations of the administration that would change
\nNigeria. Buhari is still obsessed with the ills of the Jonathan
\nadministration and by so doing, he is making Jonathan image loom
\nlarger. Boko Haram is riding roughshod and the bombs are dropping more
\nfrequently. More and more innocent Nigerians are abbreviated. The APC
\nApostle of change appears not to be bothered. Indeed we have entered the
\nera of change in the negative retrogressive direction. Sometimes, one
\nbegins to ask; what manner of change is APC bringing to Nigeria? Is it the
\nZaria massacre that is the change or the Shiite Sunni division leading to
\nkillings in parts of the North? Is it the change in the price of Petrol
\nkerosene from N50.00 to N85.00 which Nigerians buy in pains? Under the
\nnose of APC, almost all MNCs are sacking their workers, the few investors
\nthe past administration brought in are on the run; the banking industry is
\nembarking on massive downsizing, even private companies are sacking
\nbecause they cannot afford to pay workers, yet electricity tariffs are
\njacked-up and this is likely to precipitate a nationwide protest. That is
\nAPC model of creating jobs. Laughable!
\nThe South-South produces the budget of the Country but the North has
\ncontributed so much by sponsoring Boko Haram, a human hyena that has
\nsucked the blood of innocent men, women and Children. I see reasons with
\nBuhari for over-compensating the North. What is more, he has declared
\nAmnesty for Boko Haram yet Boko Haram has not stopped killing. The reason
\nis simple: Boko Haram is like the donation of Northern Nigeria to the
\nnation. What a horrible donation my Countrymen?
\nNigeria is basking in the euphoria of a brand new APC President Muhammad
\nBuhari has been sworn-in at the Centre and many Governors who are newly
\nelected was sworn in more than two months ago. For now, the dominant Party
\nis the APC. President Jonathan handed over power to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari,
\nand Nigerians will certainly hold the new administration to its campaign
\npromises. In sharp contrast to the President inaugural speech, the
\nappointments made so far show that Buhari is implementing a policy of
\nNorthernization as change mantra.
\nAfter President Buharigave his speech, I was intrigued by three
\nthings. First, he lampooned the murderous outfit called Boko Haram, which
\nhitherto had appointed him a spokesman when the terrorists group founded
\non the basis of Islamic fundamentalism, The General saidMembers of the
\nBokoHarm are not true muslins,; they are criminals. True to type, as the
\nPresident Buhari is now working hard to dissociate himself from the
\ndreaded terrorist group, but before now, he was appointed spokesman and
\nhis reaction was on the affirmative. He never reneged the colony of those
\nwho relished in bloodletting, killing, maiming and kidnapping.
\nThe second thing the general mentioned was the accolade he gave President
\nJonathan. This is a pace setting acknowledgment that former President
\nJonathan was courageous enough to concede defeat even before the
\nPresidential elections were announced. This action is unprecedented in the
\nhistory of Nigeria a reason most people are won\u2122t to think that the
\nreal hero of democracy in this Republic is former President Jonathan.
\nPresident Jonathan is not some Robert Mugabe who is life President. He
\nunderstands the realities. This appears to have given succor to the Niger
\nDelta especially Bayelsa State where the President performance was
\nless than edifying, and several questions must be asked especially those
\nwho served as contractors and aides to former President Jonathan. What is
\nimportant is that we sent out a Jonathan and he played his part as a
\ndemocrat, and for that we are grateful.
\nWhat is perhaps the crescendo of the general speech was his
\nacknowledgement of the role of the Social Media. I could recall that
\nBuhari mentioned the Social Media thrice as the driver of the elections
\nand a catalyst of open government. True, the Social Media has even gone
\nbeyond what general Buhari adumbrated; it is not a significant determinant
\nof elections and other national issues.
\nAgain Buhari assertion that he is for nobody and for everybody kept
\nTinubu and his cabal frowning. That is expected because the general
\nbrainless as he may seem, understands the Yoruba agenda, and he is most
\nlikely to truncate it before the barons move against him. That is the
\nnature of leadership. A good leader should be for everybody and for
\nnobody. This is Buhari highest expression of patriotism for Nigeria.
\nMy prayer is that his principal appointments should not also bring in
\npeople who have records of corruption. Corruption is deadlier than denge
\nfever and most of the appointees should be drawn from the technocrats.
\nNow, Nigerians know that Buhari used APC as a ladder to climb to the
\nPresidency to serve himself and a few other Northers.
\nBuhari move that the military formation should be moved to Maiduguiri
\nhas been given two interpretations because of his earlier assertion to
\nIslamize Nigeria. One interpretation is to fund Boko Haram to decimate the
\nNigerian military. Another interpretation is to really wage a war against
\nBoko Haram. In either cases, the peace Buhari said he would make in a very
\nshort time is in doubt. I had thought the President might have done his
\nhomework on how to annihilate the access of evil and keep Nigeria
\npeaceful. He gave the military a deadline that is not realistic. Again,
\nBuhari cannot distinguish between conventional warfare and insurgency.
\nFor now, the most knotty challenge to Nigerian is the chaotic state of
\nour economy. Without recourse to the experience of professional
\neconomists, Nigerians are aware that Nigeria over-dependency on crude
\noil is one of the age-long challenges we must overcome. The responsibility
\nof the APC government is to diversify the economy. Our over-reliance on
\ncrude oil has led to wide spread peculation. It has also turned Nigeria
\ninto a perpetual consumer nation, with a no-grow index in almost all other
\nsectors of the economy. True, the President Jonathan administration made
\nenormous progress in Agriculture and power, but the economic fifth
\ncolumnists daily wreak havoc to the economy.
\nSince April 2014, the price of crude oil started to fluctuate and it
\nnosedived to even less than $30 USD. As at November 2014, the price of our
\nonly source of revenue plummeted to an all-time low. It was like a
\nhurricane that swept across Nigeria, making it difficult for so many
\nStates to foot their statutory obligations of paying salaries. The
\nsituation has not changed for the better. Nigeria may be undergoing her
\neconomic meltdown and we have a lesson or two to learn on diversification
\nof the economy. The 2016 budget is one based on loans, so Nigerians have
\nstarted owing before they begin to spend the money. Buhari promised to
\ncreate jobs but now there are conspicuous signals that there would be
\nmassive job losses in 2016 in the Universities, financial institutions and
\nother MDAs and corporate institutions.
\nSurely, Nigeria crude oil deposited in the Nigeria Delta belongs to
\nall Nigerians but the solid mineral resources we find in all parts of
\nNigeria belong to where they are situated. It is injustice but we are
\nwatching. Now the Nigerians know that if the production of crude oil
\nstops, we shall have no budget and invariable the concept of ONE NIGERIA
\nwill be called to question. Our economy is certainly not based on revenues
\nfrom carrots, cows, onions and beans.
\nAmidst this inequality, the North has produced about 98% of those who have
\nmessed up the coffers of the nation. Some of them now wear the toga of
\nstatesmen, but why not, with the huge monies they rack in to their
\noffshore accounts through their oil blocks. I must acknowledge that some
\nof these leaders are benevolent enough to use part of their loots to
\nsponsor politically-induced insurgency. Today, not even Buhari and the new
\nadministration can stop the menace. The Boko Haram they invented may
\neventually consume them. For the six years President Jonathan was in power
\nhe ran a war economy- an economy that bought more arms than built more
\nhospitals, rehabilitated more orphans than built more schools for the
\nalmajiris.
\nThe frustration is such that youths in the North are reported to be
\nburning down the houses of Senators. In the colony of leaders, we have
\nthose who are visionary but cannot work hard enough to actualize their
\nvisions. There are those who fly on the wings of courage, vision and
\ninspiration and being audacious, they fulfill even higher goals. The Niger
\nDelta Youths Avengershave been tempted to go back to the trenches
\nbecause of Buhari inability to fulfil his promises.
\nThe Amnesty Programme is poorly funded. The Maritime University at
\nOkerenkoko is at the point of being scrapped. Most of the people-oriented
\nprojects initiated by the Jonathan administration are being abandoned.
\nNinety (90%) of oil blocks have been cornered by Northerners.
\nI trust that if these conditions are violated, Buhari administration
\nmay be running a war economy on two fronts: from the dry arid sahel region
\nto the oil-rich Niger Delta on another. We can avoid this war economy by
\nkeeping the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, NDDC and allow the Amnesty
\nProgramme to run. All these palliatives are to douse the potentially
\nexplosive situation in the Niger Delta, which of course will not stop a
\nmore comprehensive vehement agitation for total resource control or fiscal
\nfederalism. It 25% derivation or nothing as recommended by the
\nNATIONAL CONFAB. Sadly, Buhari has not given even a casual attention to
\nthe aforementioned issues. He dreams corruption, talks corruption, chases
\ncorruption but there is a list of most Corrupt Nigerians given to him but
\nhe has done nothing with the G-7 list. Most of them are in Buhari
\nCabinet. Sadly, Buhari cabinet id inundated with corrupt people and he
\nis very happy working with them.
\nWhile Buhari is hounding the OBOTE MEN, the mistakes of ex-President
\nJonathan are becoming more conspicuous. The South-South is mourning as
\ntheir sons take turns to visit Kuje prisons on allegations of corruption.
\nThe most buffeting is the fact that Boko Haram killings have increased,
\ninsecurity is becoming more and more intense, the famed #chibokgirls
\nmystery is yet to be unraveled, the Cabinet has not been constituted and
\nhope appears to be fading even among the stubbornly optimistic. Buhari
\nonly wisdom is to appoint Northerners and he does not think of Nigeria,
\nlet alone moving the country forward. It appears the PDP was right when
\nthey said the APC just needed power for its own sake; the members do not
\nknow what it takes to entrench good governance. Senator Tinubu just
\nconfirmed that when he said APC was just formed to take power from
\nPresident Jonathan. Nigerians are compelled to watch President Buhari as
\nhe implements a pro-North and anti-Niger Delta agenda.
\nAbout a year into the Buhari administration, the judiciary has been turned
\nup-side-down. All election petitions must favour the APC even though
\nevidences are to the contrary.
\nNot even one of the 81 promises made by Buhari during his campaign has
\nbeen fulfilled. In politics, promises are like debts and when they are not
\nfulfilled then one can say that it is fraud. Most Nigerians may be praying
\nthat the price of crude oil should diminish to $10 p\/b for that is the
\nonly way Nigeria can think of investment in Agriculture and embrace
\nindustrialization. By any known standard, Buhari as a primitive
\nfeudalistic hegemon, bereft of ideas and who is intent on taking Nigeria
\nback to the Stone Age.<\/p>\n
I disagree because he addresses the United Nations and promises to fight
\ncorruption but the fight against corruption is not only lopsided but
\ncriminally conducted. If it were not so why will Buhari not declare how
\nmuch he has recovered from corrupt Nigerians? Prof. Pat Utomi has conceded
\nthat we are on the slippery slope and I can agree no less. Buhari still
\nacts like a tyrant. He has forgotten that we are in a democratic rule.
\nPresident Buhari is too archaic to administer a modernizing State. The
\nPresident rules the nation with the rule of the thumb. To hell with that
\nwretched broom of infamy! How the hell has the broom transformed Nigeria
\ninto a fantastically corrupt nation in so short a period? APC has duped
\nthe collective conscience of the Nation.<\/p>\n
