Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ogun State, Hon. Sikirulai
\nOgundele, on Sunday declared the appointment of former Kaduna State
\nGovernor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, as the party’s new National Caretaker
\nChairman, a welcome development designed to reposition the PDP for victory
\nin subsequent elections in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
A statement by the Ogun State PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Malik Ibitoye,
\nquoted Ogundele as saying that, “The Ogun State Chapter of the Peoples
\nDemocratic Party(PDP) under the Chairmanship of Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele
\nhereby salutes the courage of the PDP National Planning Committee headed
\nby His Excellency, Gov. Nyesom Wike for its decision to reposition the
\nparty by dissolving the National Executive of our party and setting up of
\nCaretaker Committee.
\n“While it is not a lie that our party, the Peoples Democratic Party, has
\nfaced some challenges in recent times, the greatest reality is always the
\nwillingness and tenacity of members to assiduously work to ensure this
\npolitical ship is steered to safety. This has been demonstrated, again, by
\nparty members and leaders at the Port Harcourt Convention.<\/p>\n
“By our actions at the convention on Saturday, 21 May, the PDP can be
\nlikened to a phoenix capable of regenerating itself, rising from its own
\nashes and subduing predictions of doom. This great feat is sired by the
\ngenuine love for the party and determination of members to steady the
\nvoyage despite the turbulent political sea we have continually travelled
\non. The day has broken for all forces and political leanings to return to
\nbase, integrate and build formidable strengths for the future\u2019s greater
\nbattle.<\/p>\n
“The post-convention period is a time for rebuilding, reconstructing, and
\nrecovering the party from the morass of brinkmanship, disunity and
\nmeaningless trifles already overcome by the gathering at Port Harcourt,
\nRivers state. As the only pan-Nigerian party, the PDP can\u2019t afford to put
\nNigerians in greater despair than they are currently in, no thanks to the
\nruling federal government. Every PDP member must know that the PDP is a
\nNigerian project, and, shares a common fate with the country\u2019s democracy.
\nWe must not lose hope, but trudge on to achieve unity and victory.<\/p>\n
“The Ogun State PDP hereby declares total support for all the decisions
\ntaken at the National Convention where the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff\u2019s led
\nNational Executives was dissolved and a Caretaker Committee led by Ex
\nKaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi as Chaiman and Senator Ben
\nObi as Secretary was set up with a mandate to hold a credible National
\nConvention where new National Working Committee members will be elected
\nwithin 90 days.”<\/p>\n
”We however assure all members of our great party, PDP in the State \u00fdof
\nour resolve, in the spirit and letter of the Port Harcourt Convention to
\nwork assiduously towards uniting all various interests and reposition the
